Shards were destroyed

I had an interesting problem happen in my current game.  The Umber did a simultanous attack on several of my resources.  I defended a couple and lost one.  After dealing with the army, I rebuilt the mine.

A couple turns later the AI did the same attack on different resources.  He actually got me a little off guard and destroyed two of my three shards, and I mean destroyed the shards.  I could not rebuild the shrines.  The actual shard crystal itself disappeared from the entire game.

Are the shards themselves supposed to get destroyed?  If so, I will definitely be posting guards next to those from now on.

Thats a bug. Happened to me too and also had Krax build a city on top of a fire shard and when I took the city I couldnt build the shrine. Razed the city and the shard disappeared.

It's been like this since at least 1.07 (when I started playing).  Not sure if it's 'supposed to be like that' or just is.  But it wasn't some random bug that won't happen again.  Shards simply disappear once destroyed, including razing a city attached to a shard.  So guards on them, or attach them to a defended city, is definitely the way to go.

There is even (if I remember correctly) a spell or tech which lets you destroy the special tiles. This is not a bug but a feature from the game :-) The negative part on this is, that its irreversible :-)

Scorched earth, indeed.

There was a bug and is fixed (internally) for 1.09 where lone shrines (shrines built on shards not directly attached to a city) would have those shards destroyed if the improvement was attacked.

Dunno what is up with the 'city hub on a shrine' issue though...I'll keep a look-out!
