About Destiny's Embers

Brad, could I trouble you for some insight into your writing methods and general approach to writing Destiny's Embers?

I've read about the inspirations for EWoM (from both an artistic and gameplay perspective), but I would really like to hear what process(es) worked for you in the book's development.

Did you find yourself sitting for random periods of time, doodling story arcs, creating backstories, etc.? Had you already imagined the complete work in your head, and fleshed out the story off the cuff? As someone who fancies himself a budding author, I would love to hear your thoughts!
