Anyone doing better than 5 turns till memory crashes since latest 1.08?

Was wondering if its normal for loads of people still that the game crashes every 4 or 5 turns with out of memory error. Im at turn 300-ish on a large map, Vista 64bit, HD48xx series card. Crashes are pretty regular between 4 and 6 turns on average, very very annoying.

Is this now an isolated error since the patch that was supposedly to fix these things, or did the fix not work very well?

If you ARE playing without memory leaks on a 64 bit, what video card is working?

I have had almost no crashes since the second 1.08 hotfix.  I am using a 1 gig Nvidia card with the latest drivers.

I am on Win 7 64 bit with a Radeon HD 5770 (1GB) with 4 GB RAM and I haven't had any crashes period.   I did update the drivers to the latest version.

I am still getting the memory leaks as well..... I have 48xx card too maybe thats the culprit. Win 7 64 bit.   One thing i notice is a couple turns before the crash that when going between the cloth and 3d maps strange things start to happen.   Seems like the same zoom leak they had with Sins.

Vista 64, HD58xx card. I don't seem to have the more than in earlier versions though. It does get worse the later in the game though. I can usually go quite a while before crashing. But once the crashing starts, it doesn't matter how much I restart the game, the crashing becomes more frequent.

I still have 10.6 drivers since the newest drivers seemed to really screw up another game for me.

I am doing the same since the aug 26 drivers screw up starcraft 2 and a couple other games.... I hope stardock isnt testing with these(aug 26) drivers since they need to be fixed.

396 turns before OOM crash Windows 7 64Bit, so yes lots better than 5 turns.

I'm fine until I get into tactical combat. Then I have a 50% chance based on the units or the abilities being used that it'll CTD. Have only had it happen with summoned units that I've seen so far, like Elementals. Sometimes when they attack or get attacked, game goes poof.

Win 7, Geforce 8500 GTS.

At the end of a large game, I was lucky to go 10 turns without a crash of some kind and numerous bugs.

Yeah, grab the OOM fix if your system can handle it.  I run now with no crashes though perhaps i could play for longer and force some.  Haven't had a game last more than 500 or so turns.

I've genuinely not had any major problems since 1.07.  If I didn't know others were having problems, I'd say Mission accomplished on the stability/performance.  If I played bigger maps it may be different though.

Prior to 1.08 I could not play on large map and even medium maps were a chore wading through all the OOM errors (win 7 x64) Since 1.08 im nearly 300 turns into a large map game and not a single OOM yet (knock on wood).  So much improved - yes

With 1.08, I've been crashing to desktop every 3-5 turns when playing on my notebook -- a huge step down in stability from previous versions.

Notebook Specs:

Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53 GHz)

nVidia GT230 graphics w/ 512mb

4 GB Ram

Crucial 128 GB SSD

Win 7-64 Pro

I'm running with 2GB of ram and a Radeon HD2600 with 256 MB Dedicated and up to 255 MB more shared memory, AMD Turion X2 TL-64 (2200 MHZ), and Vista Home Premium.

With the latest patch I can usually go a number of turns between crashes, especially if I shut off as many programs in the start tray as possible beforehand (antivirus, etc.).  Early game I can usually go a LOT of turns (100+), but late game, when there are a lot of my units on the board, lockups come more frequently.

When the game crashes, the OS has purged almost everything it can to Virtual Memory (only 16% memory usage after I close Elemental).

When I hear the 'ding' I hit the windows button (to get me to the desktop) and close the program manually - right clicking on the Elemental  box at the bottom and hit close.  Then restart elemental and start again with my latest save or autosave.

I'm planning a ram upgrade soon, to see if I can get around the Out Of Memory game lockups.

According to the manual, I should be fine:

To play Elemental: War of Magic, your PC will need to meet at least the following
minimum requirements:
Windows® 7 / Vista SP2 / XP SP3 2.4 GHz Processor
1 GB Available System Memory
128 MB 3D Video Card (GeForce 6800 / Radeon x1600 or Better)
DirectX 9.0

I think this is it a 4870 here. But the problem is 4870 and 4850 is a VERY common card. How could they let this game out the door without making sure it worked right? No other game I can recall has ever done this before. Some games run better on some cards but not to the point where it is basically broken to play. A 4870 should make mince meat out of this game, but instead I get memory leaks, crashes, and poor performance.

Meanwhile this week I had to play on laptop because I was out. 260mgtx dual core laptop was able to run this game WAAAAAY better. I crashed OOM only at turn 187 and experienced no slowdown. This is absurd. My laptop can outrun my desktop when my desktop is twice as powerful. This game needs some serious help. I reccomend that Stardock get in touch with ATI and get this resolved.

Much less crashes now than before.

However:

I have 2 almost same setups: same ATI card, win 7 x64, intel quad core 4gb ram. Only difference is motherboard and CPU generation. I even copied game folder from old one (and was really happy it works without 2gb download). Game on old one crashes more than new one, but on new one i need to use  hardware mouse cursor, because software one is flickering.

Intel core duo E2200 chip, ATI 3650 video card = one crash in every 700-1000 turns. Win 7 32.

Still, 'fun factor' crashes a lot sooner for me. :(

XP 32, Q9650, GTX8800, SB X-Fi, 3GB RAM.

Very rare OOM crashes. Can play few hundred turns. I think the standard 'Send report to MS' crashes are more frequent.

My games get well over 700 turns and about that time is when I start to crash every ten turns or so.  Pain in the ass.

So, let me see if I understand this correctly.

We paid a good sum for this game, (in my case $29.00 USD) and what we really are, are testers?

I mean come on, the game Beta'd for how many months, yet we still have a memory issue?

I for one am very sorry I sunk my few dollars into this thing.

I know, it's my own fault for believing half of the hype about what it would be and all.

I guess I should be happy playing with ancient graphics, clunky movement and ridiculously designed controls?

I gave up about 17 hours of my life to playing this thinking it would get better, or maybe grow on me, but all I get is frustration and confusion.

A case in point ... the campaign ending where you have to get around the Obsidian Wall to meet your heroes for the final attack.

I was moved to words I haven't spoken since the army. For anyone one hung up there here's some advice that these so called devs have failed to tell you.

IGNORE THE POP UP TELLING YOUR PARTY COMING FROM THE WATER SIDE THAT THEY CANNOT PROCEED AND GO AHEAD AND PROCEED EAST TO THE FIRE CRYSTAL!JUST WALK RIGHT UP TO IT AFTER LEAVING YOUR BOAT!

I'm sorely disappointed I hope someone has found some fun with this game, I didn't. If the mechanics were streamlined and the movement smoothed out and by all means, take advantage of at least the graphics from five years ago, then it might be worth what's asked.

OK, flamers and assorted fan boys go ahead, just be warned I will not be listening, instead I'm simply moving on to a better designed and more professionally implemented game. Which one you ask? I could close my eyes and throw a copy of this game in any game store and hit one.

ATI 4850 HD 1GB

Win 7 64-bit 4GB RAM

Ok 1.08 improved the OOM crashes but on a large map by turn 267 I once again began getting OOM CTD's and reloads are only good for a turn or 3 before it happens again and I lose a turn or half having to go back to the savegame with Autosave set to every turn...

This Sucks!!!   Only because I like the game so much!!!!
