trade routes/organization

Work has kept me from the game much of the week, and there have been a few updates. Before I delve back into it tonight  I'd like some advice.

  • I used Organization in every game--even with the increased price it was worth it. Now that it is not an option, is my sovereign's army going to be lumbering around at a snail's pace? What's the best way to maximize my army's movement? For those who used Org. what are you going with now?
  • I need to adjust my trade route strategy. I'm not sure how it works. Is it more effective to send a caravan from city A who has an abundance of food/gold to city B who doesn't? Or is it better to send a caravan from each new settlement back to my capital? I do trade with other kingdoms & empires but we often wind up at war so it's not always long term beneficial.

thanks!

Other than giving the units as much +move stuff as you can, I don't know of much else.  The teleport spell is also nerfed so that alternative is out.

With my usual need for speedier travel and our inability to build roads, I don't even bother with most effective caravan.  I connect cities I need to get to faster.

I was worried about the same but in my current game I have my sovereign and spouse (love Rilis) running around with squads of mounted troops.  The army moves at 5 per turn (also playing men so I have traveling boots, and the cloak) which is pretty good.  Slower units I use as city defense and/or support for conquering campaigns.  I'm currently working on saving up the crystal for some mounted troops that will have move of 7 (rings and amulets, and such).

I was originally sad about losing organized but now I have incentive to use movement enhancing gear on my troops.  Also it forces the choice of a slow moving powerhouse army with dragons, summons, and such things.  Or building expensive troops that can move quickly.

I need to adjust my trade route strategy.

I always use the same trade route strategy: 90% of caravans go to the city with the highest food production, the other 10% I use to fill in road ways.  Once you get familiar with how the caravans build roads you can partially control it (some weird things happen).  Keep in mind most of the time the longer the distance between A and B the better.  The bonuses the trade route produces are better, and the road is more bang for your buck, for example if you have a long southern boarder send a caravan from the western city to the eastern city and you'll have a road across the whole southern boarder and the rest of the cities can send caravans North.
