[Beta up to 1.08.092] Still crashs with Win 7 64 Bit [Fixed]

Hello,

I still get an instant crash, before I am able to see the introduction screen.

I deleted the game setting, and tried to run with Fullscreen=0 and HDRLighting=0, no effekt.

I am encountering an identical error - every game version from launch to 1.08 has had the exact same result as described above.  My debug.err is here: http://pastebin.ca/1944692

Win7 x64, ATI HD 5870.  I have had an open ticket with Stardock support since the day after launch and I have not yet even seen this acknowledged as an issue.  Even knowing that someone is working on addressing the problem I think would be good enough for me at this point.

If there was a dump zip created in C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic on Windows XP), please post it via drop.io.

The game has crashed before even making it to the loading screen, I assume this is why there has not yet been a single dump zip created.

Yes, even with Version 1.08b[b].094 there is no dump file. The only file I got is sig.bin and a Screens directory.

It's been a week so I'm bumping this.  Sorry if that's a breach of forum etiquette but I've owned this game since launch and haven't been able to play it even once yet, and I'm beginning to get very frustrated with the lack of support from any source.  Is there at least any indication that this is an acknowledged issue?

Same here s well, 64 bit crashing every 30 minutes of play,

My system runs windows 7 pro, I7 3.2ghz, 12gig ram DDR3, 5800 series ATI card 1gig, X58 P6 Premium Asus mother board. heaps of cooling.

out of memory error.

Laggy response on main map (zoomed in) after playing for 20 min.

I thought a special 64 bit version was coming?

Also run it on a DV6 HP laptop I7 chip 1.6ghz, Window 7 home, 8 gig, ATI 5700 1gig series(fairly sure), crashes once every 1.5 hours. runs better on the laptop as far as reliability.

Love the game.

Stardock will get it fixed.

Thanks

Mark

one questtion for you is do you have the latest video drivers?

I am runnig fairly well except for OOMs in  an i7 930 w was 6gb ddr3 now 12gb dd3 with an ati 5850 on win7 64bit ultimate, and after adding the LAA patch get around 450-500 turns before the memory leak  grinds the game to a halt, and before the laa patch was getting 150-250 turns, but I maks sure to use the latest drivers.

I had Elemental installed at three different PCs. That one above (ATI 5770, older and actual driver (Catalyst 10.9), instant crash (crash after one sec, no intro)), my old PC (Core 2 Duo, same grafik card, older driver, elemental beta 0.8 - 0.9, Win 7 64, instant crash), my old PC (Core 2 Duo, same grafik card, older driver, elemental beta 0.3 - 0.9, Win XP,  elemental worked alpha or beta like) and my notebook (Core 2 Duo, nvidia grafik card, Win 7 64 Bit, elemental worked normal).

From my data, it looks like a problem with the ATI 5770 drivers for Win 7 64 Bit, but there must be additional unknown conditions.

Don't appologize...we're sorry it hasn't been working for you :(

Question: do you have your regional setting as "German", as the OP does?  We've had odd bugs in previous titles were the region settings were a key clue.

Thanks guys...we're on it!

If you are unable to start the game, and are using an ATI card, please try closing the ATI Catalyst Control Center ( it runs in the Windows system tray in the task bar).

Some users have been unable to start the game when this program is running, but closing the ATI tray tools allows them to start Elemental.

If I were in your shoes, I would try setting the compatibility mode to Windows XP SP3.  This should knock your directx support down to version 9 and perhaps this will allow you to play the game.

I always remove the ATI Catalyst Control Center from autostart. But that brought me to stop the ATI Tray Tools from Ray Adams before loading Elemental, which never made problems to a lot of other Games.

I am wondering, but Elemental is now loading. The problem is solved :D .

Thanks, for the posts. I hope that helps other people, too.

Thank you to everyone who responded - I am awed and humbled by the manners and helpfulness here as opposed to so many other forums.  I am overjoyed to report that indeed as Gorofin the ATI Tray Tools app appears to have been the cause of my problem, since it is no longer running and Elemental runs without error.

For future reference, if anyone else has this problem:

I experienced the issue with every 10.x release of the Catalyst driver up to and including the most recent.  Regional setting was "English" for me.  For reference, the ATI Catalyst Control Center was not the source of this particular problem, as Elemental runs fine with or without CCC running.  With or without CCC however Elemental stubbornly refused to launch while ATI Tray Tools was running.

Thank you all very much for your assistance, and if you'll excuse me - I have a game to play!

Agreed, we have some great folks around here!

I added a [Fixed] at the top for our own sanity. We're still trying to get this reproducing on ATI's end for a seamless fix, but in the meantime, disabling the CCC seems to do the job.

In my case

OS Windows XP SP3 4GB RAM

Video card  Radeon HD4850 with Cat10.9.

I dont install CCC, i used only ATI Tray Tools.

Elemental cant runs no errors , me too.

But I solved it by ATI Tray Tools's OSD disabled.

I am happy if I help somebody

biomekanic, the issues win 64 bit windows and ati video card are still happening, but from my own personal testing on HUGE 12x12-16x16 maps with 10 ai's and myself without LAA can get about 200 turns with 1.09e49(current version), and when  I use the LAA on the elemental.exe have had a game get to 738 turns, BUT loading the save would not play on past end of turn which is weird, and I had saved it as I had been playing for 16 hours straight in the one game and needed to get some sleep.

I still can't figure out how to do this LAA thing.
