v1.08 Friday Slipstream running post

v1.08 Friday Slipstream running post

V1.08 is up as well as v1.08B which turns on MP.  The MP version is only listed as "beta" because we want players to know that we're going to be adding AI players as an option in custom games which should be enabled in v1.09 (next week).

Here's a running tally of what we're tweaking for Friday's (today) update:

  1. NPC Recruiting behavior change better communicated
  2. Organized talent is being removed
  3. New talent: Green Thumb: +2 food per turn
  4. New talent: Wealthy: +1 gildar per turn
  5. More consistent starting resources
  6. Look at why custom made maps aren't showing up
  7. See about the tiny maps always being the default (I think it's a MP thing)
  8. Reduction of equipment costs in shops (the eco balance is the first step to having weapons and equipment more consistent in cost)
  9. Tweak of monster spawning
  10. Option for animation removal in tactical battles
  11. Pathfinding/Terrain tweak/fix
  12. Longbow costs 40 not 4 now.

Some immediate things I noticed:

The gold mine that is "seeded" to the starting location can now be much further away (up to 5 tiles it would appear)

Adventure techs are not spawning resources inside your influence boundaries; by design? The gold mine that just appeared in my game was six tiles from the edge of my influence.

Gave my sov a shortbow, str 15, attack strength total of "6".

Shot 9 times at a Def 1 wolf on open plains and all misses. Uh, somethings wrong with the new patch?

I actually prefer that it spawn them both inside and outside your influence. If it can only pop mines in your AoI and you research that tech while you have a dozen cities, you can spring up a bunch of gold mines. If you research it while you only have 1 city, you won't get nearly the return, and you kinda "have" to research the tech if you want to access anything past it. Sooo.... Spawning nodes outside your AoI is good, and it incentives expansion.

You don't understand the adventure "resource" line. It doesn't matter if you have 1 city or 100. The resources that spawn are completely fixed (With only 1 variation)

Kingdom: Exploration spawns exactly 1 gold mine. Lost bounty spawns exactly 1 Twilight Bees and 1 Fruit. Lost Maps spawns exactly 1 gold mine. Rare resources spawns exactly 1 Ventari Iron. Secrets of the Nemesis spawns exactly 1 crystal crag.

Wrong. Take my last game for example. No gold mines from the gold mine one. 2 twilight bees, and no Crystal. Kinda pissed me off on the crystal actually. Gold mine was no big deal, for some reason the whole area around me was saturated with gold mines. After conquering one Ai, and building 2 cities I had 6 gold mines to my name....yeesh.

I have done 100 turns of EACH of the adventure techs that spawn resources. Every single time it is without fail the exact same spawn. 100 times out of 100.

I did omit the fact that the numbers are actually 0-1 gold mine, 0-1 fruit and 0-1 bees, 0-1 gold, 0-1 ventari (I have ALWAYS gotten this never a 0 for me but I put the 0 for completness sake.), 0-1 crystal.

The only possible explanation for you seeing two bees is that your borders were very close to an enemy and he researched that tech, only to have the bees spawn in your territory.

Of course, they have vastly increased the distance that resources can spawn from your borders now however and they can now spawn outside your influence. Before 1.08 it was ALWAYS in your influence.

However this is my last response on these forums barring the support section for bug reports. Far too many G.I.F.T ed here.

you can build troops with more moves if you want the option to move more.

I bought a longbow for my sov and and whatever he shoots at he misses. :'(

1.08 is a good step in right direction. I'm gonna miss the Sov led super stack with 5 moves. But any way...

-Missile weapons are definatly bugged took dozens of shots with them and not a one hit, even against 0 def targets.

-Champion skill (I forget actual name) that deals a max blow and "can't miss" MISSED!

Other stuff...

-Not sure I'm gonna like the move to a global mana pool.

-Missile weapons should get attack bonus from dex instead of str.

Same here: my sov managed 12 shots at a wolf, all misses.

Maybe I picked up the "Cursed Shortbow of Inaccuracy" from the shop? :S

Bow damage is broken at the moment, they screwed up with the mindamage tag. They know about it, not sure how soon a fix will be out.

You can't explain away the fact that the game I played this morning I popped the food one and had one bee show up in my border AND one show up just north of me. Perhaps its not working properly though. I have had multiple gold mines show up from this tech as well...though I didn't know about the 0 option. I hadn't noticed it before so it could be an oversight. Oh well. 8am cst Tuesday morning my Predownload of Civ 5 unlocks and I probably won't be touching this for months so it won't matter.

It's completely possible that the one outside your border was due to an AI researching the same tech and didn't have room in their territory to place it. Thus, the bee was spawned outside.

Friday update:

+ Fixed an error where old saves with old data had logic conflicts with new code that made spells miss.

I really got to start paying more attention to these things lol. If I would have seen this it would have saved me a world of confusion this morning trying to figure out why my spells were broke..lol...oops.

On a large map with the nearest AI city being well over 20 turns of marching away? riiiiiiiiggggggghhhhhht. More then likely its just another bug.

Playing the 2nd slipstream updated 1.08 patch, I have noticed quite a step backwards from 1.08.  Tactical combat is sluggish now, and I am unable to attack with the mouse more than once before having to unselect the unit and re select it.  Sometimes it takes a few tries of unselecting.

I believe a bug has cropped up with the 1.08 patch.  I have noticed that longbowmen always miss.  I have tried making my soveriegn have the advanced archery feat.  I have also researched the tech and the longbow still always misses no matter the range or the defence of the opponent.

Already noted in this thread and in several other threads in the support forum. Several problems were introduced, such as this and the vanishing mana bug. The archery problems have been addressed by the bugfix mod. Hopefully the archery, mana, and other new issues will be fixed in another hotfix...they are close to being game breaking.
