Australian release date changed to 30/9/10 - please explain

I was informed today by my retail pre-order store (gamehead) that they had just been advised by the publisher that the Australian release date for Elemental has been changed to 30/9/10.

Stardock this is just not good enough.  4 weeks AFTER the release date to move it back six weeks without prior notification.

Please explain.

Order online mate and download. You'll get it cheaper too. Cost me AU$56 after conversion.

Hmm, you can easily buy the download version.

Just for your information, at least in germany this game is only available as download. So be lucky to get a box actually.

Still, it's bad news when games are no longer on the shelf - really limits the market.

In Oz too and went the download route, but with an LE box.

Well, in theory there is a box - been waiting a LONG time for it and still not arrived.

I'm pretty sure the Aus publisher had been aiming for end of September all along. It's likely that the local retailers were just poorly informed.

Thanks for the reply Kryo.

It seems like you guys have a big problem if the distributors/aus publisher was telling you one thing and the retailers/public something quite different.

The whole experience of distribution chain problems has left a very sour taste in my mouth and I will be unlikely to buy a Stardock product again.

@ the other posters - had I been told in early August that the retail version would be end of September (rather than at the same time as the online version) I would have purchased direct and arranged to download it somewhere.  After having pre-ordered six weeks ago (and having had the retail store take my money) and been given persistent reassurance from retail that it would come 'any day now' (and I understand that that was what they were being told) while Stardock were silent as to regards any different understanding I'm not about to pay for the (still missing) product a second time over.
