Tactical Spells and Effected Tiles

Are the only shapes currently supported by the magic system single tiles, and squares, or can we do more complex shapes?
Specifically, I was hoping to work on a short range fire spell that sprays out forward in an arc, and a traditional Lightning Bolt spell which would hit each tile between the caster and the selected tile.
