The Kingdom Summons

The Kingdom Summons

I have a quick question about the summon spells for the kingdoms

Familiar--the little red

Fire Giant--the one with the three specials

%@$@'s Promise--similar to the Fire Giant but has the awesome Rock Slide ability

Ice Lord--no special abilities but great attack strength (should have some kind of special)

Then there is the minor fire, air, water, earth elementals

But I also researched something called the Lord of the Sea.  But when I was playing he seemed to be the exact same thing as the water elemental.  I even summoned all of them and then disbanded the rest.  My question is this a bug, are they the same thing, or I'm I just confused.  Option 3 is completely possible.  I was getting pretty punchy last night.

I looked in our source control software, and as far back as our release date, the summoned unit called Familiar (located in CoreSummonedUnits.xml) has been pointing to an ability bonus option called "Vengeance2", and that ability bonus option has been defined in CoreAbilities.xml since at least the beginning of August.  I realize that the response pointing out this problem is 14 days old, but even back then, it should have worked.  Unless there was some problem in the xml file itself that caused the whole thing not to load at the time.  At any rate, I have verified today that the familiar does have a special ability to spend his essence on.  So if it's not working in the build you have, it will be working in 1.09.

Vengeance II does work, but it is a passive ability, so there is no mana cost. It just doubles the damage when you counter attack. As a result, the familiar has mana that it doesn't use.

It might be worthwhile alllowing soverigns to imbue familiars, that way it will at least have the possibliilty of being useful mana-wise.

Ahh, roger that. I will look into giving them an appropriate mana-costing ability then.

CrazyC0330 thanks for keeping us informed.  Looking forward to 1.09

PS.  You mentioned notifying SD on issues like this.  Since this was kind of a bug does it go in the support section.

Yeah, in general, do try to put the posts in the correct section of the forums.  It just makes it easier for me to say, not go to the "suggestions" section of the forums when I'm just looking to squash a bunch of bugs from the forums on a particular day.

In this case though, the original topic wasn't really pointing out a bug necessarily.  Then there were somewhat related bugs added in as replies.

As a side note, and just as a reminder, if you have a completely unrelated bug to the post at hand, please do start a new post.

I think water elemental (summon) also has wrong ability name. Ability is there in XML files of the unit, but does not appear inside the game.

P.S.

It would be good to recheck all names of abilities. Maybe there are more with similar wrong name issue.

It's good that game does not crash if wrong data is entered, but it does make finding bugs like these much more difficult.

It does appear, it's just called "Lord of the Sea" instead of Summon Minor Water Elemental. From Water book:

    <SpellDef InternalName="SummonWaterElemental">
        <DisplayName>Lord of the Sea</DisplayName>

...

        <GameModifier InternalName="SummonUnit">
            <ModType>Unit</ModType>
            <Attribute>SummonUnit</Attribute>
            <UnitClass>MinorWaterElemental</UnitClass>
            <StrVal>Minor Water Elemental</StrVal>

I actually found that confusing in the game play.

I mean, it has ability in its xml entry (some sort of drowing attack), which doesn't appear in the game when you summon water elemental (with Lord of the Sea spell).

Thanks Crazy, it seems there are a couple more in this thread.  I guess we are the summoning crew.  I like them.  I do hope a maintenance fee is put on summoning.

I like that no one should have magic except the sovereigns.  If a couple things have a talent than I would be okay with that.

I totally disagree with this. I think that heros as well as some other creatures should have access to magic. Otherwise magic would be pretty boring and not used often.  And I really don't want my Soverign being on the front line.

I think you are missing what I am saying.  I like the Rock Slide and other "magic" talents for the various summoned units.  Even passive skills like vengeance II.  I also like the idea of the Sovereign imbuing another character.  In the post prior to mine a comment was made about a summoned creature having access to all 1st and/or 2nd level spells.  I think that goes against the game concept of a few select channelers bringing the world back from the cataclysm.  I actually think the imbue spell is too easy.  I would like to see it take 15 turns to cast, and neither character can be used for that time period.  Showing how exhausting it was to cast the spell.  Magic is to easy in the game in my opinion, I want more of it, but I want it to matter more.
