Anyone else enjoying the mod tools?

Is anyone else enjoying the mod tools that are in Elemental?
Usually I dont do alot of this kind of thing, I usually just wait for others to make cool things and then download them (have tons some voice work for a few mods though in previous games).

But this weekend I gave the Map editor, the Tile/Building editor and the Faction and I had a BLAST! Actually came up with a few good things as well.

Made a few wicked maps and buildings the last few days, very very fun stuff  B)

Making my own Gardens, Barracks, etc is great fun and actually have made some good maps so far, making a bunch of islands and then connecting them, fun stuff!

Anyways, was really enjoying this game in sandbox mode and then this weekend I gave all these editing tools a try and its been very fun!

I also like how the online mod database is set up (though I think you can only download maps so far), would be cool to have a rating system on there to so people who downloaded could rate it out of 5).

How are others finding the mod part of this game?

I'd say some parts are excellent, while others leave a lot to be desired.

Excellent; tile editor, map editor, xml easy to understand and straightforward

Less excellent; no depth (what they have is what we can copy and use), no access to the python, the UI (need desktopX+elemental tutorial)

Yea thats the thing, I dont know anything about making crazy in depth mods or anything, jsut that this map editor and building editor are more user friendly then alot of other ones out that, at least for me.

My wish list includes:

  1. Quest editor (make it easy to make quests)
  2. Goodie Hut (notable locations) editor
  3. General game rules exported to Python

These are things that I've put on the list as things that I'd like to get done sooner rather than later.

Haven't messed with them yet.  Frogboy, any chance for a 4th category?  a resources editor?

As soon as I can edit enough stuff to make the game very similar (i.e. identical) to MoM I am buying Elemental for sure... though the demo will probably be enough to convince me :D

At the risk of being thought of as repetitious and an idiot, I'd still like to see an item editor.

Yes please! :)

And a full XML API for the game would be great as well.

I think the main issue with the editors is that they are all a little disjointed though otherwise good. As a result though you can make a tile in the tile editor it doesn't get used or do anything unless you go and edit some behind the scenes XML and assign it to something.

I would like to see some more editors, like....

Creature editor

Spell editor

Special ability editor

I doubt I will get much time as me & my wife are expecting a baby soon, or I'd right some editors for these in java myself.

I haven't fired up the editor just yet, but wasn't a spell editor of some sorts mentioned by Brad in the past in one of his dev journals?

From what I've seen and played with, I'll be sucked into them like a second game. :P That said, I've personally held off on them until the game settles down.

agreed... which could be somewhat alleviated if we had direct mouse control over objects we place on the tile, after their initial placement...

lose the coordinate controls, or at least implement mouse control as well... please? :)
