Im unable to play this game if patch1.08 does not remove auto troop design

I and others said it before, Automatic troop design needs to be removed but i seriously cant play the game anymore untill it is removed. its just to annoying that every other turn i need to delete a bunch of undesired units. I know it seems like a small detail about the game but its the small things that pile up and get annoying to deal with.

Seriously, Galactic Civilizations 2 has a troop template design form and can turn off automatic troop design. why cant A game made by the same people follow the same format?

"Every other turn" is a bit exaggerated, I think.  But if that breaks the game for you, so sorry.  Maybe request a mod in the mod forum that eliminates this.  It's hardly game breaking, and even if implemented, would likely be low priority on their list of things to do.

Although it doesn't bother me nearly as much, it is clearly messed up.  How many peasants with staves do I need?  Answer:  zero-one, not 5.

I would like to be able to set - auto Troop Design On/Off ...    I had one game in 1.06 that something went really wrong, every turn I got (Sire, we can now train archers)  --- I started with a custom faction that had the archer skill--- The probelm was when I accidentally reserched the Advanced Archery Tech- Why did this even show up --- I had the tech for Long bows already ....  but after I reserched that every turn I got a new archer in my units .....      So Im all for a button at the units screen that lets me turn auto design on/off

I have to agree I'd like this although I can play with it turned on it just spoils the fun a bit.

There should be a way you can edit your race's file and remove the pre-built units.

It is crazy that every tech I learn brings up another "Archer" unit.  I dont think it's anywhere near a game ender for me, but it is anoying.

Interesting... I took all of the <StartingUnitType> lines out of my custom race's faction file.  At the beginning of the game I was all clear, but as soon as I got the first warfare tech with equipment I got my "Observer" just like normal.

Also, it seems impossible to design a pioneer as cheap as the one that you start with (it forces you to take a club), so modding the file in this way puts you at a bit of a disadvantage.

I've recently asked for a refund and this is one of the things driving me away from Elemental. In theory Elemental is a great game but I'm tired of weekly patches that don't do enough to make it the game I've paid for.

I also find the auto troop design extremely annoying.  I would love the option of turning it off.

I even hate it remembering units I created the last time I used that same nation.  I like building all units every game, maybe that sounds dumb but I think that its part of the fun.  I wish there where more clothing options.  My wraith female soldiers have no pants or shoes.  But that is an other issue.

Agreed. It should either forget about user created troops or let me choose to turn them on/off.

What I find most annoying about auto troop generation is sometimes it will just tell me that a new unit, Archer, has been created. Every single time!

this doesn't really bother me.  sure i let a few auto designs get created and then in a few seconds delete them.  it rarely happens to me anyways.  maybe every 20 turns or so.

We can :)

When you play a game and design a unit that unit gets it's own Xml file created and stored in the my docs version of "Units". Every so often when I get tired of seeing the other designs I made I just go to that folder and mass-delete the Xml's referring to the other units I made and *poof* they don't show up in my next game.

Having a way to turn off the designs the factions start with might be cool too though.

Just an option in the game menu that would disable auto build designs would do. OFC that one is needed by Stardock to implement.

^^ What Daynarr said, an option to shut it off would be fine, so those who don't want to design their own units can just use the premades.  I know I don't even bother designing any units until I have delved pretty darn deep into the Warfare tree..  Of course that will change once the AI is fixed but for now I don't even bother training troops until I have med packs, leather armor, & reapers.  Then I lay off again until I have bows.  So I only go into the designer a couple of times and delete all the premades in one go.

So yeah my cities will be empty & undefended for about the first 100 turns or so (I don't put much priority in the warfare tree atm).

It is this type of issue that makes the game feel like it was rushed, simply because these very tools exist in previous Stardock games.  Unit creation was a HUGE part of GC2, and they do it so beautifully, both with the user-created content and the auto-create ships.  I think that is one of the reasons why I am bothered by the way Elemental does things also... I have experienced something I consider much better and cleaner from the same development company who made this game. It makes me wonder if people testing the game asked that the system be changed, or if the people who designed that part of GC2 no longer work for Stardock, or ... something else perhaps.

Perhaps this is not a huge issue, but it is one of many smaller issues where Elemental does not live up to its own predecessors in certain areas of excellence and quality.

For counting purposes, just wanted to add my vote for turning this into an Enable / Disable type of feature.  I can agree that this reflects poorly on the level of polish of the game.  This should be a boolean logic wrapper and a check box, so we are not asking for a new stat system or anything here...

Shifter has a good idea with his soultions topic, the only problem is GalCiv2 did exactly what you suggested!!! why the makers of said game choose not to follow the same formula for this game is a mystery to me.

I refuse to believe that the makers of GalCiv2 could have made this game

Lawl.  I feel silly knowing GalCiv2 did the same thing... but that doesn't change the fact it's a good idea!  I agree it seems odd that some relatively simply things like that were overlooked, but I suppose the enormity of Elemental played a role in that.

* Turn off auto-design feature

* At unit design add check "Add this design to starships... oops units database"

... and I guess that will solve all the mess we are having right now.
