The book says some things different from within the game

In the book, it says map size can be from tiny to huge, but in the game, it's from tiny to large.   

In the book, it says you can have up to 16 opponents, but in the game, there are only 8 available. 

In the book, it says you can select between continent(s) or island(s) or something in-between.  Those options do not show up when just playing a random mission.

Are these misprints, or possibly will these options be available later?

Manuals have to go to print well in advance of the actual gold version of the game, so sometimes things can change after that point.

Multiplayer will support up to 16 players.

Map options were changed late in development in favor of seeded maps as the fractal generator did not provide very balanced starts. But it's something we may revisit as time goes on.
