Hero Recruitment

I know that at one point in the beta, there were guildhalls (or something to that extent) that allowed hero recruiting. After heroes have been "fixed" it would be nice to be able to recruit them again. After all In most games I play, I find 1-2 heroes and if they die, thats it; no more army commanders.

really?  i currently have over 30 champions (I like to collect them) unfortunately they all have crap for equipment because I cant afford to get them all the good stuff, there are at least ten who are unarmed completely because of cost constraints.

but anyway...have you researched the recruitment, heroes, and legends techs? (kingdom techs, not sure what the empire's are called)  those are the ones that release new champions into the wilds for you to recruit.

I have but I never seem to get any near me. I usually play on a medium/large map and I swear I never seem them (all techs in adventure have been researched, I was starting the master quest).

must be a another randomness problem.  there are either too few or too many (insert random resource here) every time you start a new map.

There seems to be a limited number of heroes available in each game. It seems in my experience that the new higher level heroes spawn because of Adventure research only if one of the lower level types has been removed from the pool thus freeing up space. And even then there is no guarantee that they will spawn near you rather than near one of your opponents. You can test this out by using the cheat which removes Fog of War on the whole map and then just watch the hero spawning.

Resources should not be that rare. What do you have the world difficulty set to? Note that the easier setting, the more resources will be available. The only resource that is guaranteed to be near you is a fertile land tile.

Heroes spawn like monsters through the game, of course with monsters spawning out of control, they are often killed off by the hordes that lurk just outside your control zone.

This may sound stupid, but it took me awhile to realize that the difference between heroes who've already been recruited by the AI factions and those that are free agents is subtle.  They both have a coat of arm/logo in the upper right corner when you click on them, but the one used by free agents is hard to differentiate early on when you haven't memorized the various logos used by your competitors.  I missed a lot of heroes in earlier games because I thought they'd already been recruited.

Anyone know if world difficulty also impacts the number of quest givers?  I bumped up the world difficulty to ridiculous recently and it seemed there were a bunch more quests available.  I was also pushing more into adventuring than I normally do, so maybe I just finally got to see what the spawn rate looked like without others picking them over first...

From what I have noticed if your zoomed out to the cloth map it becomes quite obvious who is a free agent and who isn't, as their pewter piece has a brown ring around it's base.
