Disabling AI spouses?
I had a poke around, but didn't come up with a solution.
Have anyone tried to remove the spouses the AI always starts with?

why would you do that?
Did you try to change the <class> of the spouses in coreunits?
Should be obvious that it's dumb that the AI cheats in that regard. It has children by turn 30. It should be on equal footing with the player.
I tried to comment out the two spouse units, didn't seem to work as intended.
Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to disable this. I haven't found that code yet though. ![]()
so you would rob the ai of the ability to have children, and therefore the ability to marry your own children to them? thats genius. cripple the hyper-intelligent AI to make the game "Fair"! why didnt i think of that...
Yes, welcome to MOD land, thisisretarded. Where we try to CHEAT AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and then FORCE EVERYONE TO USE IT.
Or maybe we try to alter things that make no sense, to make a better game for those that want it.
It's one of those, at any rate.
If you're talking about the spouses of minor factions, you can't marry their children anyways and I've been unable to use diplomacy so far.
i certainly never accused anyone of cheating. i just implied that it was stupid. also that accusing the AI of "cheating" was stupid. and that any concern of these incredibly weak units giving the ai any sort of advantage is stupid.
now i can add that claiming that it makes no sense is...stupid. because it is an entirely needed component for the whole "dynasty" thingy.
...
...
let me rephrase all that. I think that it is a stupid idea and was using the forum to communicate that. I am sorry if my opinion hurts you in some way. ![]()
I'm just shocked someone called the AI "hyper-intelligent" non-facetiously.
i was confused until i realized you were being facetious. ![]()
The only thing hurt would be my hope for humanity.
There's no such thing as a stupid idea when it comes to breaking new ground in modding. Where you see only a nerf to AI, I see possibilities.
Maybe some of us would like to marry the AI leaders? That Queen Procipinee is pretty hot you know ![]()
that i like.
wrong. stupid ideas are far more common that not-so-stupid ideas, which are in turn far more common than genuinely good ideas.
also it is stupid BECAUSE - that idea would not nerf the AI. it would nerf the player. you would be denied a source a valuable grandchildren. grandchildren which the player is (hopefully) smart enough to use properly (the AI is not capable of this).
Deleted. Points made.
This is solely about putting the AI on equal footing with the player, ideally the AI would be smart enough to marry NPCs, just as the player has to. But I suspect it ain't, which might be the reason why it automatically starts with a spouse.
How do you come into a modding thread and state that what we're trying to accomplish is "stupid"? Perhaps you don't have the foresight to understand what this can do for modding?
Initially, yes, this might limit the AI's ability to marry and have children. Eventually, perhaps, this will improve the AI so they marry champions (or players) and balance the game. That's not STUPID and if you honestly believe this then just ignore this thread and go away. We don't need your help here or you questioning the thread's purpose.
Why are you bothering with this thread to begin with?
criticism is healthy. learning how to deal with criticism is an important life skill. i criticize because i care. now quit being such big babies.
now if this thread asked "how can i alter the values of the AI so that they can arrange their own marriages later in the game rather than from the start?"
I would have replied, "the AI was not designed to do that and therefore code would have to be written to change it. Unfortunately, modders don't have access to the need information to make that sort of change."
I would have replied that, because it would have been an intelligent question and worthy of a serious response.
foresight. funny.
I try giving her a credit card. Works in real life.
yes it is but any valid point you had went out the window when you implied their reasoning was stupid..
My concern with this is can the AI at a later date choose a wife or did they hard code one in as a solution?
i am willing to admit that my sarcasm turned caustic and i apologize for that.
This doesn't put the AI on equal footing at all, the AI doesn't know how to find a spouse and marry them. So if you manage to disable the default spouse, all you would end up doing is disabling the entire thing for them, giving you a huge advantage in getting 4 free channelers, abeited rather late in the game. It would also disable your ability to hire their daughters for ... essentially free, and getting 4 more grand children for every boy you manage to produce. In those regards, the dynasty system is completely in favor of the player IMO.
Having said that, have you tried using the <Gender> tag to reverse their genders?
It is very hard to interpret intent in text.. One (self included) often comes across entirely different when read then it sounds in our heads as we type.. Tis why I try real hard to make sarcasm and other tonal qualities of my posts obvious with similes and explanations..
I do not come here to fight with folks.. but I do often (or at least try to) debate the merits of ideas.. We all win if we all find a better solution/idea by communication..
I understand completely why the mod folks may want to mod this.. I can envision a campaigns where having instant extra heroes is bad.. let alone campaigns that are simply adventure for a small party of heroes (think D&D modules)..
I want to say when Dhuran and I were going through the files for UR2.0 we saw a file with a 1 or 0 value to tell the sov whether or not to start with a spouse. I'll have to see if I can find it again or ask him if I can't. Will keep you all posted.
Honestly, why are you still here? We're still going to do this mod if we can find the code to do it. Your criticism is unwarranted and unneeded. We don't quite know what effect disabling the default spouses will have. You certainly can guess with foresight and you may be right but you cannot be certain because you haven't modded it yourself yet.
Altering the arranged marriages to be later is also a valuable idea and possibility. I like it. Unfortunately, it's just as impossible as disabling the AI's arranged marriages.
Lastly, just as important as criticism is being able to deal with your peers in a respectful way. In life, you shouldn't just say peoples ideas are stupid because, frankly, that's disrespectful and adds little to the conversation, topic, or debate. You'd be wise to word things differently and the sarcasm certainly isn't winning you any karma. It's not that we can't take it or "deal with it", it just helps create a more collaborative environment which can have better outcomes. I, for one, don't come to the modding boards to have to deal with "that's stupid" from a guy who's name is "thisisretarded".
At the moment, you're a distraction to this thread. I'm not feeding the troll anymore.
Great! I'll have to get online later to understand what UR2.0 is, lol.
