[Gameplay] The tactical combat AI SUCKS

Hi,

I only ever use auto-resolve if I know I have a major advantage, otherwise the stupid AI might kill my sovereign. There are two extremely

simple rules the AI devs need to implement:

- The unit with the highest attack should attack first - against the opponents unit with the highest attack / potential to do harm

- If defending, wait for the attacker (melee) to approach and make sure the defender gets to strike *first*

Example:

My army has 3 heroes and a squad of dragons. I attack a lvl 5 troll in the wilderness (single creature). If I play myself I'll select my dragons and roast the troll. Battle over. If auto-resolved, my sovereign (att 16, def 24) rides gloriously into battle against the troll (att 130, def 40), hits one strike, most likely misses, and gets pulverized by the troll. THEN my dragons roast the troll ..... very smart.

regards,

T

I can only imagine what the dragon was thinking in that auto-resolve scenario.

"I will fell thee, foul creature!", Sovereign rides to battle.

Dragon thinks: Fool. I could have killed that thing and he wouldn't have to lift a finger.

Troll: LOLWTFNOOB. I gotz 130 Attack. What's u got?

Sovereign: I have the power of justice! Die, beast!

Troll: OMGWUT? *Pounds sovereign into the ground.

Dragon: Well now that's over. *Fire breaths troll*

Troll: OMG why didn't he let you attack first? LOL wut a noob *dies from flames*

Dragon: Well, what should I do with myself now?

BTW, I agree. Sovereigns should only "go" before melee units if they have ranged weapon or MP to cast spells (and then they should cast every turn until they don't, and then do nothing unless their attack is at least the same as the targets).
