Elemental Mod Website

Hello all,

I'm a software developer and love Elemental! :)  I'm starting to see some great Mods coming from the community!  I think it's time to start thinking/talking about an Elemental Mod site.  My reasons for creating this post is to gather ideas/feedback.  First of all, do you think there will be enough support for a site dedicated to Elemental Mods? Here are my ideas of things it will include:

  • Ability to create an account (author)
  • Accounts can have mods attached to them
  • Mods can have files, descriptions, and screenshots
  • Mods can be rated (star rating) and reviewed
  • Mods can be listed and filtered (most recent, # downloads, highest rated, by author)

Any feedback would be appreciated!

We need a site like this most dearly. I would hold off though until more people get excited about the site though. I am easy to get excited about modding. User created content is the ultimate extension of any game.

Hey Klaytonix, actually there's a site fully ready for it: https://www.elementalgame.info/

For the moment it does not allow direct creation of modder account to upload their file, the site team has to do it. But I think we can work on that if you are used to php/mysql. What do you think about it ?

I'm an experienced PHP/MySQL developer, and would be happy to donate some of my time, if you've already got the domain name, and you've got the storage, I could easily throw together a mod manager for you. Shoot me a private message and we can get something up and going.

If your site can keep track of my download count and have reliable hosting I'll use it.

Yes it does count downloads :)

Thanks SituationSoap I'm PM you right now!

Your site looks great! However, the site I'm thinking of would be strictly a site dedicated to Elemental Mods.  Maybe our sites could work together?

The files will be hosted on Amazon S3 and delivered via Cloudfront.  Can't get much more reliable than that!

You mean like the tesnexus.com ?

A website dedicated to Elemental Mods is badly needed (yes, like tesnexus.com).  I frequent the mod forum several times a day and I even feel lost.  Think of how newcomers must feel trying to look for mods.

However, I wonder if the in-game system will not do this for us eventually.  Is there anyone who knows if the workshop will eventually allow any type of mod to be uploaded/downloaded?

It has that potential, though it seems to be on an indefinite hold for now.

What's REALLY needed is for SD to get some mods up on Impulse.

We are going to be opening up a web based mod area in the next week or so.

Frogboy, you've gone too far! I demand...

Oh wait...

It's not Frogboy.

;P

(Seriously, good to know!  Looking forward to the mod area.)

another PHP/MySQL developer throwing his hat into the ring, should my skills be needed... more than happy to give something back to the community! :)

wow, completely missed this post...

Istari, can you elaborate on what the "web based mod area" will provide? is it similar (in functionality) as was proposed by the OP?

Istari can you make a description about how it will work ?

Yeah klaytonic, actually the site will be mostly about mods anyway, they are the "keys" of the community. :)

I'd also like to know what the plans are for the web-based mod area. I would much rather see a centralized option (beats telling people where to look) than a community site, to be honest. I know those options existed for GC and GC2, and would love to see one for EWOM.
