In GC2 we had these wonderful global events that shook the foundation of the game. We had civ based choices that effected our moral standing and diplomacy. We had a feel of game variety, I know I always feared the day that space travel was limited to 5 parsecs a week. That usually cut my production bases off from my newly conquered cities and forced a real wedge in my empre and strategy.
I know the devs really want to and are almost certainly going to add both global and national events to the game. I am guessing that their work schedule will put this aboue six months off so I am going to start posting some user based ideas on what kinds of events I want to see and I encourage all of you to give some cool examples of a random event, be it magical or mundane, that would really make each game different from the last. Keep in mind that I am planning to add these ideas to either an official thread or at least to my list of mods, so be specific and well structured.
1. Aftershocks
- Global Event: The extreme use of trans-realm magic has caused recursive damage to the fabric of existence. Any further use of any knid of teleportation would certainly mean the end of existence as we know it. With this in mind all spells and magics that warp the realm have been magically stripped from their places and contained in a secret temple by an unknown order of devout monks. All travel will now be done without the expedition formerly provided by the supernatural. You will certainly forget any mention of such magics as soon as this letter is dissolved.
- All teleport, speed, slow spells vanish from the game. Even the memory of such spells would fade from the highest minds of the realm as soon as you click the exit button.
- The message should be displayed as a formal letter written by said monks and delivered via knife on tree.
- A special quest is added to the highest tier of questing that would allow the search for these monks and the spells of old. The quest would lead to a monastery that contains all the spells in a single tome, inscribed with an ancient warning never to use any at the risk of total destruction. Using any spell from the tome later in the game has a small chance to destroy existence.
2. The Circle of Vengeance
- International Event: The heir of the most powerful nation of the realms was brutally assinated. The magics of their wizards has pointed to you as the instigator of this treachory. In a violent mania, the Sovereign of that land has vowed not to rest until your head lay at his feet. A thousand of his greatest soldiers marches even now to your doorstep. May the gods have mercy on your soul.
- The strongest nation will be permanently at war with you until either their sovereign dies or yours does.
- A quest will be made available given sufficient questing that gives word of a dark power constructing your demise. You will then have the option to clear your name or prepare for battle. During the quest you find the dark power and must present the heads of all those involved to the sovereign they pitted against you. The reward for this quest is a special spell given to the player or computer that kills the leader of this dark force.
- There will be bonuses given in multiplayer the the player that loses his son for every man of your nation that is killed. The more you lose the stronger and more numerous he becomes. This is specifically meant to be an incentive to this already powerful player. If he chooses to game the event, he will basically win. There will be a an option to get other races to help you in your quest for truth. I am open to suggestions on how to make this work.
- If you die at his hands or if you choose to wipe this enemy off the face of the realm with superior allies or a hidden strategy, the death of that Sovereign or you will complete the goals of The Circle of the Black Thorn and unleash hellish minions upon the lands. You will not survive the culling... The enemy Sovereign might if he has become powerful enough by slaughtering and razing your cities (that will be where he gets the biggest bonuses).
- Ideally all of this information will be given in mysterious riddles and strange incriptions on ancient walls. It will be up to you to solve the mystery.
More to come from me and hopefully you too...
