 Well, I will eventually post a screenshot ... as soon as I have a place to host the images. 

from what i am seeing here you guys dont let people upload images to posts..  at least i cant find a way to.

I have the same issue.  the light streaming upwards from the shrines is blocked by many different map objects, such as trees, water, and the roofs of buildings.  it is a constant issue, as in it doesn't change from game to game and it happens on all the shards.

 

here is a water shrine with it's light beam nearly totally blocked by trees:

this is a close up of two light beams in front of a city, which shows the various objects that block the light. certain roofs and tents, trees, and water all appear as being in front of the light beam.
