Impulse Can't Update - Making it Impossible to Update Elemental via Impulse

So I purchased elemental today, and the first thing I did is attempted to patch it.  It activates something called Impulse, I successfully register with no problems and login.  Impulse attempts to update itself, but after downloading its update, it says informs me there was an error applying the update, but of course does not tell me what caused the error.  The real kicker is this, impulse refuses to update Elemental until Impulse receives an update, so impulse is essentially a useless waist of disk space until I resolve this problem.

Does anyone know why impulse would have this problem, or how to fix it.  Or better yet, where I can find a manual, browser downloaded patch and avoid these crippled automatic update services software companies are always trying to push on me.

Thanks for the help.

I managed to find the error logs, still can't make sense of it though:

I already reinstalled the Impulse client according to the instructions given on the impulse support page, now it updates but it does not consider Elemental installed on my machine, even though Elemental is installed on my machine.

Looks like I will have to contact technical support directly.
