Outpost to Village

Hi, total noob here and just tried out the game.

How the hell do I advance an outpost to a village?

I placed it next to fertile land but my kingdom doesn't get any food it seems, thus cannot build huts or something to get beyond the 10 citizens I have which in turn means I'm stuck at outpost level... what do I do wrong here?

get some materials. 10 I think then click on the field. You should be able to build a farm on top of it. You'll see a icon of a hammer. Click that. Then when it's finished building you'll have the food that you need to build a hut.
