Kingdoms vs Empires

I've been wondering, that shouldnt kingdoms stick more together? I mean I'm playing as kingdom and the other kingdoms are trying to kill me more than empires! And some of them are even allied with the evil empires.. I find it a little strange... I mean... it's like dwarves allying with goblins (or other arch enemies) to kill other dwarves of different faction... If you get it..

well, if you go for the whole good-vs-evil endless battle kind of game, then diplomacy becomes pretty pointless doesn't it? i like it the way it is, making certain kinds of wars more likely, but not the rule.

You get a bonus to diplomatic relations when dealing with other kingdoms(as a kingdom). However it's just one point. For instance, him having a stronger army than you is minus two points(minus four or minus eight as he gets stronger and stronger than you). Make sure your army is at least as strong as his, otherwise your diplomatic relations will deteriorate until he eventually declares war.

Trying to figure what's happening in the campaign.... hm... oh yeah. People have been allying with the empires and thinking the old wars are over.... and being rather hostile with each other.

From a principle kind of black/white view I agree, but the wars were over a hundred years ago. This is a time of rebuilding, alliances and cooperation (and competition for scarce resources)... only later comes the genocidal wars. :)

I always thought that much of traditional fantasy (not all of it) has racist overtones -- not that Fantasy in general, is or holds a racist stance, but that it uses a mindset that in any other context but fantasy, would be considered racist.  Some Science Fiction does the same thing.  I strongly recommend "The Iron Dream" by Norman Spinrad for a satire of this common trope (aka "Lord of the Swastika" by 'Adolph Hitler').

Sometimes 'race' and 'species' are used interchangably.  Sometimes race or species, and not culture or upbringing or environment, determines your values, your temperment, and so on.  Most of this is absurd, if you analyze it, because many racial traits, if they were truly universal to a race or species, would be seriously detrimental to forming a thriving culture, much less a civilization.

Mmm, Dwarves allying with Goblins...  Seriously we need more races.
