Elemental won't play a single turn without restarting when this happens.

Also when I load it back up, it goes incredibly slow.  This is quite a nice memory leak.

I'm curious how many people who are getting chronic out of memory errors are running in windowed mode.

When I first updated to 1.07, I was running in windowed mode and started getting OOM errors rather frequently.  I'm probably going to jinx it now by saying anything, but ever since I switched back to fullscreen I haven't received a single out of memory error.

For the record, I'm also running Win7 64 bit and an ATI video card.

I never run in windowed mode.

I'm running Win 7 64 bit with an NVidia card.  I have 12 GB of RAM.  So this problem is frustrating to say the least.

I'm running Win7 64 w/ ATI and I've never run in Windowed mode, yet I get OOM regularly after about an hour of play.

I got the same thing after 4+hrs of play.

I was able to play over 500 turns before the 1st mem error happens  - shame the game is so much more stable and fun now, but this error occurs aboutt the same point in the game everytime.  the best part is the there is no way the game is out of memory on a 9gb rig with 1.45gb of ram.  Sind of a Solar empire had a similar issue at 2gb, but based on the time is came out and the fact it was coded fro 32 bit machines, we tolerated, but come on guys this is the 64 bit error.  I hope they can find and kill this little big buggie

I get out of memory errors every couple of turns, OR Elemental has stopped working. Extremly frustrating to say the least. Win 7 64bit. 8 GB ram 6 tri channel. Dual Nvidia 9800X2s NOT in quad SLI mode. Intel 980X processor. The above errors happened constantly in the game just finished. Happening constantly on a new game I just started.

I wish we could at least get some response from someone who knows what is going in with quashing this -- especially because they keep claiming in every patch to have fixed this.

To echo what the others were saying, I also get the error, also running win7/64 w 8gigs and an ATI card.

Happens more or less 1-2 hours into a play session, but half the time I get another crash before then from other bugs....

Same here I am still getting this error around turns 500. I wouldn't mind it as much, but the process of closing the program -- reopening the program --- loading an autosave --- playing a few more turns (20 or so) and then crashing again is a bit of a pain.

Sorry forgot to mention that when the OOM happens, I never know that it actually happens. Basically, the game freezes and nothing movies. So I alt+tab to go to windows and next thing I see is the pop up "OOM" and the windows7 typical error box "... had an unexpected error.. "

Darn it happend again but sooner thins time. Here are the saved stuff from both times. Hope it helps. cheers

A 32-bit process (like Elemental: War of Magic is) can only use 2GB of RAM, regardless of if you are running 64bit windows or running lots of RAM.

This is most likely a slow memory leak that takes a long time to hit the 2GB limit.

It's not all that slow sometimes.

And it requires restarting my machine to correct.

This is a serious leak.

It seems to happen when the autosave goes off, or when I save the game.  Ever since I started getting memory leaks, I save more often, and it seems that that has drastically decreased the time I get to play before a memory crash.

That isn't going to help 64 bit systems, though.

64 bit systems are definitely getting this issue.  I have two friends that I talked into buying this game (how foolish I feel now), both using 64 bit systems, and both getting out of memory messages after a few hours of play (at most).

I love, by the way, the interactive feel of this support thread.  It really feels the devs care about my problem; what with the quick replies and all.

At the moment, there's not much we can do in the forums to address OOM issues, beyond prompting for data if it's not provided. It's something that will probably be improved through successive updates.

The large address header patch will improve your longevity if you're on a 64bit system, as the game itself is only 32bit and cannot address more than 2GB under normal circumstances, though we can't support it as it may cause other side effects.

Gradually improved?

This really is an amazing problem for a modern game to have and to no be able to solve.

The devs are squashing every leak they find, but there is no magic pill thus far. We'd like that as much as anyone. Right now it's looking like more of an issue of numerous small ones, rather than one big easy target.

So when Wardell said this one of his biggest regrets with the game, I guess that meant it was less important than implementing a new mana system.  New features and gameplay changes are great, but the focus should be these absurd memory leaks and performance problems.  Make the game playable before tweaking the balance.

I'm about ready to put this game on the virtual shelf.

This is 100% not true. In fact my fix will help 64bit systems MORE than 32bit systems. I'm using 64bit win7 and it removed all OOM issues.

The fix, for both 32 and 64bit operating systems can be found here.
