Map Editor?

When i open the Map Editor and looking at the premade maps, it just sit there wouldnt do anything. So i hit System Manager, telling me the program is not responding, so had to shut it down. When i try to make a Large Map, did the samn thing. Any ideas why this is happen??
Im sure i have plenty of memory and good pc performance.
