Quick question about equipment

When you research warfare and get new weapons and defenses - I understand how to do it if you create a new unit (like GalCiv2 when you put new weapons on a space ship) but is there a way to retro-fit all your existing peasants etc?  Seems silly if you cannot.

At the moment, you can't retrofit existing units. If you disband them you get the population back (nearest city), but no resources back.

Not quite correct.

If you open the unit build menu there is a button at the bottom called "Design". If you click this you can create new units from scratch choosing equipment, looks, background, etc.

There is also a buttons called "Update" which allows you to update existing soldiers with new weapons/armor.

It sounded to me like he was asking about upgrading units he already built, not updating a current design.

End of Shrap123's quote

Actually you then have to train these units you upgraded, it creates a new unit type but the old ones remain with the same equipment afaik.

Are you sure about this? You can't buy items with your sovereign, trade them to your peasant and equip them from the peasant?
