Custom and Pre-made Factions Questions

Using the Custom Faction Editor and looking at the “CoreRaceConfigs.xml” file, I found the following traits that the pre-made factions had, but was not available in the Editor:

Benevolent Bonus

  • Dark Lore Bonus
  • Distrusted Bonus
  • Evil Bonus
  • Expert Traders Bonus
  • Heroic Bonus
  • Lore Masters Bonus
  • Weapon Masters Bonus

 Also, the following traits were available in the editor, but not used by any of the pre-made factions:

  • Diplomatic
  • Inefficient
  • Master Scouts
  • Siege Masters

 So I guess I have a couple questions on this,

  1. Why are some traits not available in the editor?
  2. Are all the traits working (as of 1.07) and not just place holders for future expansions?
  3. What’s the cost of the traits not available in the editor and their descriptions?
  4. Currently the pre-made Factions are totally unbalanced, as far as using their allotted 10 points for creation. I’m in the process of editing my “CoreRaceConfigs.xml” file to make it more fun/balanced for me. Has anyone else done this and do you mind sharing your files?

So I Edited my CoreRaceConfigs.xml file, but it does not look like the changes took effect.

When choosing your opponents, the Strengths and Weaknesses still reflect the original setup.

 

Anyone know why??

Hey guys.  I was directed to this post by a pm.    

 

As to the questions in the first post.   Those abilities that are referenced in the core race config but that are not in the faction editor, is because they are actually disabled in the AbilityBonuses.xml file and so if you chose them, then you wouldn't see any effect from the choice.   Those abilities or any other ability you want to mod in could be added.   Then you would just have to type the internal name of the ability in the custom faction editor and it would use it.

 

However, as you can imagine, I  can't automatically come up with a value for custom abilities that is balanced against pre-made abilities.  So yes, right now custom factions are not going to be balanced, unless you specifically try to make them balanced yourself.   

As to why your changes to the CoreRaceConfigs.xml didn't work, you have to create a new file and save it in the mods directory (or race directory), you can't just modify the original file in place, it won't pick it up.

I thought i remember one of the pre-mades having the Siege Masters traits. Can;t remember exactly who but i believe it was a kingdom
