New citysets? share your plans (screens)

After reading this post (https://forums.elementalgame.com/390276) i decided to make a new cityset.

If you have some set or already working on please post some picture. We can inspire each other :)

My first will be a set for northern kingdoms. Kingdoms with winter terrain. But it will follow the kingdom techtree. So i only want an otherlooking cityset. (And i miss palmtrees for arabic style settlements.)

This is an example, the nordic hut: (the building site and the hard folks of the nord)

We are kindred in this. I just wish there was an option for adding a dusting of snow to the castle walls. Please post more pics as you finish stuff and remember, we will be able to share the tiles without any modding in about two months. That should be enough time to finish. :banhammer:

I keep using too many objects! I'm up to 3-4 pages and I realize this is a HUT... there's going to be 50+ on screen at the same time.

I think you are wrong Heavenfall. It doesn't matter what kind or how many items you use, because it will only be visible when you zoom way close and even then, it is only displaying a small portion of your town. This is some I would like to test in the future though.

Well that depends what you set the LOD to. I haven't really maximized the efficiency in that department, if you know what I'm talking about.

Good to hear . . . two months must be enough

and i loaded the core kingdom_apiary, it has a lots of elements either

my favorit, the nordic apiary, fear the honey-hungry bears :)

May I suggest that you load the cartographer's table, place your apiary, then take your screenshots? It gives us a better view of your finished product.

Yes, it does matter. Whether or not it's being show, it's still in memory. And regardless of how many of -your- objects are on screen, it still has to play nice with every other object on screen. And you have no idea how demanding the scene will be. So the cleaner your object is, the better it'll work in tandem with everything else.

For an extreme example, imagine putting a gold coin on a table under a shack. Due to the shack, at no point will the table or coin be visible. The game still has to keep those objects in memory if only to cull them from view.

something wrong

i tried to load buildings, but the game doesn't load the

unins, download again, clear instal, cleared custom tile directory: doesn't load the buildings . . . hm

(OFF: can i download the install files to my computer, or i have to download it every time if i reinstall - ok, i don't want reinstall it every day :) )

Ingame it won't load your buildings or at the cartographer table? I haven't bothered to try to apply my tiles yet, because there is too much that will will be added in the next couple of weeks. I would leave them unattached to the game and in the tiles directory until things are a bit more finalized. There is so much wrong with the xml data right now.

@heavenfall,

I like your style. I would, however, suggest that you allow your tiles to protrude at least a half tile out from your main tile. When you piece them together in the game it will look more organic and less blockish.

That's just huts. The large buildings are flowing over. Any city above level 1 won't have them.

yes great hut, at the and we will have custom cityset for all nation :)

Power Plant. Got some nice emitters on top pulsating with darkness. The idea was for the "left" tower to be broken, but I can't get it to look broken. To get an idea of the size - a little fella standing straight up is about one third the size of the gate-prop.

Now that I look at it, I really gotta replace those fountains on top of the towers.

There is a destroyed pillar piece that has an undestroyed twin. You could use it for part of the building and then witch them out as needed. I also thought some debris around the bottom would add to the effect. I think I will probably use tiles like yours for my empires as I feel no real aspiration to build them right now. Keep them coming.

Maybe silly question after making some tile, but what does the yellow star do in the right bottom menu?

Is there a manual somewhere for the forge?

Can i select multiple elements? Need i always change the size of an element when using a lot of them with the same size? So are there keys which make easier our work?

There are still some mysteries in the forge. As things stand, you have to either place a piece several times at first to achieve the same size or do it manually each time. I like to create at least four of every large object I want to use and keep the extras on the side as a pallette. I think an update or two could fix things so that you need only click a previously made piece in order to duplicate it, but that is a longs ways off I suppose.

I really like it. I do think it looks a bit too "I'm building this hut", though. Maybe remove the planks in the finished version?

The Winter is coming :snowman:

I messed around a bit with it in the beta....I had a fort that was pretty cool...but the save screwed up.

You guys are making me want to get into it again.
