Uniquely Designed Female Npcs?

Curious, but on two of my late game runs the only female npcs I ran into that I could recruit looked like standard peasant / dressed types.  Nothing special.  Then I noticed that one of the neutral town's king was married and his wife was decked out in armor with a sword, but I've only seen her that one time.

 

Did I just not build fast enough to attract this slightly more unique looking female npc or do certain factions / neutral parties start with different options then what can be recruited?  A quick test I did last night was to mod a super buffed soverign and then scout the map and out of the 9 or so npcs I could find, 4 were female and all wearing the same standard dress / peasant look.

Once they're recruited, you can take them to the item shop and buy some gear. :)

Yeah you can just gear them up. The only thing that sucks though is their boobs stick/clip out through "light" armor. Such as the lowest 2d rags you start out with. Or chainmail. And I've noticed that the enemy soverign's wives aren't always human, but you never see a non-human champion running around. Or maybe it's because only empire factions can see those champions? I dunno.
