Need help using map editor (bug?)

I'm not sure if this is a bug or if I'm just missing something obvious, but I can't seem to place objects using the map editor.  Starting points, resources, quests, nada.  I can select the item from the menu that pops up on the right, but when I click on the map nothing happens.  Tried left clicking, right clicking, shift clicking etc.  So is this a bug or am I just too clueless to mod?

It's right-clicking to place, had an issue at times where the map doesn't reflect the added objects for a few minutes while editing.

This is a known issue for many objects anytime the second, third, fourth, etc., etc., maps are generated.  Only the very first map which is loaded or randomly generated will work correctly.

Great! Next question: I see that there are multiple options to set the starting point.  How do these work exactly? Can I expect that the number one position is the player, position 2 is opponent, position 3 is minor faction etc?

Sorry about the late reply, didn't notice the second question 'til now. In case you haven't found the answers yet the first starting point is always the player, 2 and up are the major NPC factions and minors have their separate starting points under the big M icon at the end of that tool bar.
