Combine single units into squads in tactical battles?

It fast becomes clear that single units, including your non magic wielding champs, become rapidly obsolete in tactical battles. But I can see no way of combining your singles into squads (or smaller squads into bigger squads). Is this an oversight, or is this a design decision.

(I gotta say, I am finding it hard to see the merits in this squad system; it just doesn't make much sense to me the way it's implemented.)

You are basically right... and i just hope they will change it with the next patch.

 

I dont think anyone is happy in lvling up a unit only to have to disband it later...

From what I understand, this feature will probably make it in, but I don't think it will be in the next few patches. As long as you have the tech, and the units are all the same, it seems like a no-brainer to allow this. It also makes it possible to rebuild units that have lost soldiers, although I suppose there would have to be some kind of XP cost if the soldiers added are lower level than the unit.  Works for me!

1.07 is supposed to tweak the squad battle mechanics a bit so they aren't as powerful.
