Odd Diplomacy Behaviour

with Some Humble Suggestions

I've noticed several odd things when engaging in diplomacy.  Some issues must be bugs, and some of them probably are not, but all have me wondering what's going on.  I'll organize them according to the category under which they can be found in-game, along with some suggestions.  Please don't take this as griping; rather, it is some points regarding a system by which I am quite intrigued and would like to see refined.  My apologies if most of this has been covered elsewhere.

Trade

  1. It seems that the AI is only willing to buy the top level of goods from you, regardless of how much s/he has of the lower levels.  That is, if you have metal and materials, s/he will only trade for metal.  If you have crystals, metal and materials, s/he will only trade for crystals.  All of the lower goods have a zero value.
  2. The value for each good varies wildly between factions, yet it seems to have no correspondence with how much of that good they currently possess.
  3. The faction leaders will occasionally mention that they have some hawt new tech that they want to share, but there is no option to trade tech.  I really hope such a feature is never implemented.

Treaties

  1. This is my biggest issue with diplomacy: the perceived values of treaties are apparently linked only to how many turns have elapsed in the game.  This appears to be to the exclusion of other factors, such as a differential in military might.  As I've mentioned in a previous thread, why should I have to pay 30k+ gildar for peace with a nation from which I have taken all but two minor cities?  Trade treaties are another good example.  If you approach a faction early in the game, you may only have to pay 10 or 20 gildar for a treaty.  Late game, you're looking at thousands of gildar for the same bonus.  The best example for those of you who would like to try this out is with a non-aggression pact.  Go to the diplomacy screen every couple of turns and watch the value rise.
  2. Sometimes when I click on a treaty, nothing will happen.  Sometimes this can be fixed by clicking on the same treaty on the other faction's side, but sometimes it can't.
  3. It would be nice to have two different treaties: non-aggression pact and a treaty of safe passage.  The former would be to agree not to invade each other, the latter would allow access to lands.  Just because I don't want someone invading me with hordes of troops doesn't mean that I do want them to invade with a horde of pioneers.

Dynasties

  1. Faction leaders will suggest that we talk about arranged marriages despite having a negative relationship with me.
  2. It would be nice to have varying answers other than "Yes" and "NEVARR!"  Being able to give a dowry to change someone's mind would be nice.  If this is already implemented, it's never worked for me.
  3. I once married the child of a brother-sister relationship to its uncle by accident.  I only realized it when I was wondering why my family tree wasn't branching.

UI

  1. Many responses to an initial greeting have double periods at the end of the sentence, like this..
  2. Oftentimes, and especially after a reload, it will say "No Relationship Info."  Sometimes this goes away in a turn or two, sometimes not.
  3. Sometimes the bonus for having family and grandchildren will not show up.
  4. How exactly is the bonus for diplomatic capital calculated?

Sorry for the wall of text.  I've never played a Stardock game before and am impressed with the level of support the devs are giving to this game along with the attention that they give to the forums.  I wanted to contribute to the process in some way, and I doubt the devs will allow me to correct the mistakes in grammar and punctuation throughout the game.  :P

Thanks for reading!

I found three more.  One has been partially mentioned in other threads, I think, but not in its entirety.

Trade/Treaties

4. If a sovereign has negative gold, if you demand negative gold from them, you can seriously glitch the diplomacy process.  The worth of a deal will go into the negatives, and their gold reserve will change to offset the two million or so negative gold that it glitches to.  Clicking the negative gold will remove the excess gold, but not the negative worth.  So, pile in all of their heroes and resources and offer them nothing in return.  Since 0 is greater than -2 million, they'll happily give you all of their stuff (or whatever treaty you desire--maybe this is how you get a late-game non-aggression pact?).

5.  Trading away resources does not always seem to deduct the appropriate amount of resources from your pool, though usually you do get the gildar from the trade.

UI

5. If a faction leader demands gildar or s/he will invade, saying that you will pay them off does not result in any actual deduction of gildar from your reserve.  It does check if you have the money, though, as clicking the top option if you don't have the gildar will result in it counting as a no.

Bump, because paying the tribute demanded of you by enemy factions still does not deduct from your total (even after 1.07).

I dont know I find that the AI awlays delcares war no matter what all the time dosnt matter if my army is bigger or not nothing seems to matter they just always delcare war and then pormptly get A$S kicking.

I also find that they do not want to have peace treats even if I take out for example or they lose 4 out of 5 towns and have nothing left.
