Tools and gold

I can't ever seem to have enough tools or gold to create a decent army.  Even the first level of groups is expensive. I seem to be forced to create single soliders with just weapons, giving them one or two pieces of armour is a waste since without a full set they die a lot easier. This is with kindom or empire. Am I missing something? It takes me about say 150 turns to get over 1k gold and that goes away after training 2-3 armoured groups of 4 models in one tile. Are there any plans to reduce the amount of tools and gold required to for units and empire buildings? 50 tools for a barter shop?! Oy vey!

Build a workshop to get some extra tools. Explore around with your sovereign to get some more on locations called "abandonned crates" or some like that. For gold, exploration works too. Train a pioneer in the first turns and as soon as you discover a gold deposit build a new settlement next to it and a mine on it. That should float your boat

Not even close. I do that, but am only getting like at most 20gp per turn. And I've played a few games, same problem. One gold mine doesn't equal a lot of gold. Or seemingly even 2 or 3. And of course I build a workshop. This isn't about early game, we're talking later game.  As well a workshop/labor pit is only one per turn.

I don't have that many goldmines, but I've got a pretty good income in my 100 turn game.

Have you been upgrading the Civilization tech tree?  I think there are some gold things there.

Also, when your towns level into level 2 or 3 etc. cities, are you choosing the + % to gildar or the guardian dude or the tech stuff?

At first I went for tech tree and arcane knowledge upon city levelling, but I had too little gold so now all my cities give extra gold and I'm pretty rich now.

You're missing out on quite a few buildings then.  I've only played as Kingdoms.. but I had a city with only 2 gold mines that was producing about 80 gold/turn with all the improvements (I built the palace there, as well as a 50% gold prod and 100% gold prod bonus).

For tools/materials..  you can build the workshop in a city that already produces some materials and then build the 20% material bonus building there.

By turn 150+, I'm typically rolling in gold/materials. I can't hire unlimited amounts of troops, but I'll typically have a squad in each of my 15 or so cities, plus a few heroes walking around with a squad or two.. and then my sov with all his summoned units and a few squads.

If you have your armies hunting for monsters that can easily be a larger source of Gildar than your regular income. A group of spiders can net you about 100 gold, and monsters like ogres or drakes that turn up later can be worth 500 gold. The extra income becomes nearly exponential as every additional unit you train is another unit to hunt monsters.

Yeah doing all of it. I pretty much have no choice. I have to go +gold percentage if I want any army at all which is not really viable for enjoying the game. Doing all the techs for gold. Empire's hard though, but even with kingdoms it does not work.
