But I don't want Ogres - An argument for neutral unit recruitment

So there I was, playing a Kingdom, and I see a minor faction city craving to be conquered. I've heard that conquering minor faction cities will sometimes allow you to recruit a new kind of unit. So I take an army over there and knock it out and the recruitable unit they have is an ogre, which can only be used by empire factions. Oh well.

In another game, I take over another minor faction and what did they have for me...stinking ogres. So now I'm thinking maybe I should play as Empire...but I stick with Kingdom. And guess what happens...I find another minor faction city and all they got for me is no good unusable ogres. I can't even demolish the tile while my kingdom city grows around the buggers.

So, how about these minor faction cities have recruitable units that both Kingdom and Empire can use? Like Yetis or Werewolves or something not too specific towards a kingdom or empire.

Yeah it seems the artists got lazy and decided to make nothing else than ogres.. I really dont see any other explanation for it.
Heck even an ogre with a lazy 5min reskin job could pass for a Yeti or something Kingdom-friendly, i wouldnt mind.

There's so much we can mod in this game, but with the incredible lack of actual creature models, well, what can we do? Wait for good modelers to finish the content i suppose :(
This also ties in with the fact that all races are just humans, yeah trogs look nasty but they still have 2 legs and 2 arms. Just seems like there's like a dozen creature models in the entire game, well actually i cant even think of a dozen.

Humans (all races)
Spiders
Dragons
Darklings
Ogres
Wolves
Horses
um.. .... Hydras? No?
........... ....... Rats? no thats just the quest description, hmm.. what else.. oh yeah, summons, but those are almost just humans again but with the brute animation pack (that you can select in the soverign creator).

There are lots more creature types. Perhaps you should play a longer game and unlock more adventuring techs :P For example, there is a model that can function pretty well as a Yeti ;)

Are there more recruitable units available at minor faction cities? Just curious what else is out there. And if you take over a city with a unit building that you can't use, is there a way to get rid of the building? Seems weird building a city around an ogre encampment.

Little kid walks by, "What's in there ma?"

"Foul ogres, honey, don't get too close"

"Why are they in the city"

"Well they were asked to leave, and they said no...and ate a few people...good people" (breaks down and sobs)

I would also like to see a wider variety of neutral animals. Why is it only ogres in the independant tribes? That means that the Kingdoms get the shaft. There should be a mix. It'd be awesome to be able to recruit, say, Wolfpacks or, say, Ettins, or Treants. Oo. There's an idea. Mix Ogres and Treants in there, so that players of Kingdoms can recruit Treants (low movement points, but huge strength and defense, moderate hitpoints, less than Ogres I would say) and the Empires can get Ogres.

Ideally I think the recruitable units at minor faction cities should have no allegiance to either the empire or kingdom. So Treants, for example, could be recruited to either side. That way there's a reward for anyone taking over the city.

It does kinda make up for my last Empire start; 1 Fertile Land & 2 Refuge Camps. :(

That's actually an awesome starting location or at least, an awesome location to build a level 5 city. Those two camps save you 4 to 8 food and 8 spaces in a level 5 city.

Not as an empire they don't.

Storm: I agree. I think it a Kingdom takes over a minor faction city that has Ogre recruitment spot, then the Kingdom should be able to recruit them. If that's too much against the Elemental storyline, then don't make Ogres available there. Make it some other creature that could be recruited by either Kingdom or Empire.

As a mention I addressed this, and other things over here: https://forums.elementalgame.com/394334

Some good suggestions for more fantasy mobs of that variety might go a long way towards convincing StarDock that sooner is better than later.

That was a great post over there Asmodeous. In some forums ideas just appear and die, but it seems the Stardock folks are really paying attention and are more obsessed with making this game better than us.
