Is this normal?

I just started my first game after going through the campaign. For the first couple turns nothing was wrong, but now my sovereign wont go into tactical combat, every time I send him to attack something I don't even get the combat window asking me what I want to do, it autoresolves itself in a suboptimal manner, wasting spells when there was no need to. Is this normal, how can I get tactical combat back?

 

TLDR: My sovereign's fights keep autoresolving without giving me a choice, can it be fixed?

Make sure the Tactical Threshhold in Options is set to 0

You have to set the tactical battles threshold in the options menu to 0, then you get to choose if you want to battle or not. Never really understood why you wouldn't have it zero, you can always choose auto-resolve if you want. Anyway, just set the threshold to 0.
