Worth interesting the game??

I wonder .. Worth buying Elemental: War of magic? Will the new patches 1.05 and 1.06 allow a fun gameplay?

Interesting me, or new patches balanced the game ??

Some people are still having problems with the game. Others of us are playing the game with no major problems, and having fun :)

Unfortunately, I can't say whether your computer configuration will be one of the ones that has problems running the game. On the bright side, Stardock is working incessantly to fix the problems, and as we've seen already with patches 1.05 and 1.06, they are doing a good job.

If you like the features the game promises. If you liked Age of Wonders you probably like this one. I have many issues with the game, the lowfps on 3d map being the worst, but I still enjoy it.

I wouldn't pay for it now. I am a huge Stardock fan but the game is broken. Wait a month - Mp will be out and server issues dealt with(if any), major bugs will be gone too.

I respectfully disagree. I LOVE Age of Wonders because I feel like a powerful wizard when playing it. In its current state, Elemental doesn't come close.  I think it will eventually get there but if you're looking for true magic play, I'd stay away for a while longer.

How AI as in the new patches?? Is good?
End of quote

The AI developer went on vacation, which, I'm sure he needed but the timing is a little odd considering this game needs daily patches and a lot of AI work.

If you have Win 7, 64 bit, ATI card, that kind of rig, you'll apparently have tech issues.  Stardock has some secret alliance with nVidia or something.  They've had problems with ATI before and the ones in GalCiv2 never did get fully resolved (GC2 crashes too if you alt tab and stay out for more than a few seconds - it's kinda random and if you don't crash it's kinda miraculous).

It's a bummer when you have a monster gaming rig that crushes all other games and something like Elemental crashes regularly, has horrific slowdowns/chunkiness, and you can't alt+tab or it crashes the game.

Aside from all that, the game IS fun and has some cool elements to it, I enjoy it, but it was released too early, has major balance issues that you can't miss if you get into the game at all, is missing stuff you'd expect, is buggy, the AI is iffy, and so on.

I've had a lot of fun with Elemental and think it's worthy of a purchase, but your mileage may vary.

Speaking as a software developer myself, sometimes this is actually better. You get to a point when you're working crazy hours that your work suffers for it, and you create more bugs and problems then you fix. At that point the best thing is just to walk away for a few days to recover, then come at it fresh.

It's counter-intuitive for a lot of people, but it's true.

I would compare it more to Civ than to AoW. AoW is closer to the HoMM series, the King's Bounty games and the Disciples titles. Elemental focuses much more on world building and techs than on actual tactical battle (which currently doesn't really compare to the aforementioned games).

The game is worth buying if you're in it for the long run and don't mind having to update often over the next few months. There is a lot of potential and promise in Elemental, and a very dedicated company (and community). If you're looking for something that won't change much and will remain mostly as it is, this is probably not the game for you.

Howdy,

I have no performance, or gameplay issues at this time, these are my specs, and a recent experience.

I am running Vista DX10, 6GB PC6400mem, AMD dual core 6000+(no idea what the ghz is on that one), ATI HD 4890, newest drivers, on-board sound (no idea what drivers) And Elemental 1.06 hotfix. 1920x1200res, AA x4, low shadows, numerous groundcover, depth of field:unchecked(don't really know if this helps or hinders).

I hope that is helpful, if there is more info i can provide I will. I used to be more literate in tech lingo, kind of rusty now.

I started a new game this morning and played for a few hours. So far no problems.

After founding a second city, I got a random encounter threat but the AI never followed through. Perhaps they were just pointing out my main city was undefended, which it was.

My opponent came to me to do some negotiating, we signed a non aggression pact that was to last for 99 turns, works for me.

I opened up Observers early on which solved all my combat worries, and they operate in a cohesive group now.

My borders are about to come together, i am hoping i can annex the secondary city into my main, that would be cool.

Researching is a blast, I forgot how much I love city building, and I am really enjoying the art style for this game.

So far I am having a painless, and enjoyable experience

If you get a sovereign or a champion who provides research on their own, you can start getting technology before you found a city. If you hit the "Create Sovereign" button when picking a leader you can make your own and see what abilities there are. :)
