[Bug / Suggestion] Unable to rename units?

Ima put this in its own post; I hope someone can help- with luck its da right scattergory for this, but no one else has mentioned it so I thought it'd be worth bringing up:
It may be a newbie question, please bear with me, uberdetail-oriented lol but key!
I searched the forums but was unable to find any mention of this : one thing I'm struggling with is renaming parties and larger size units once I've built them. I can rename single units, and rename at will in the design phase, but once I've built a party or larger unit, under the unit details, the rename button is gone- Is this a glitch? Once I was able to rename a party of peasants after they won a battle, so I wondered if this had to do with unit experience, etc., but I've since been unable to repeat that. For instance I have 2 or 3 parties of 'Observers' and I can't rename any of them, despite them being at level 3. Renaming each unit à la Civ IV really helps to keep track of which is which! I'll be very grateful for any help you can provide with this query,
