why doesn't anyone care about what I feel?

Jesus Christ on the cross

i was hoping this game would turn out to be something as unusual as a new strategy game that didn't suck. I was hoping for smart game design but i got a sandbox. Perhaps it's an entertaining sandbox i wouldn't know because i don't like sandbox games.

Then why the fuck are you buying a civ/heroes of MM/ Master of magic style game?

One more thread in the garbage bin lol

Sandbox? I can't even begin to imagine a TBS game that wouldn't be classified as "sandbox".

sandbox game that can be wn by one simple tactic because the main goal is to screw around as much as possible ie building huge armies of dragons or having all continents containing cities or something like that which i don't understand the joy of doing. look i'm happy for all of the sandbox people that they have their sandbox to play in and they seem happy but what about my feelings?

If you are looking for a campaign based strategy game, King's Bounty and it's sequel are solid choices.

It's my understanding that sandbox was chosen to enhance the replay value.  I prefer sandbox but my thoughts aren't the topic of this post. I agree the campaign isn't a campaign.  It's really a tutorial of sorts.  If I may, I recommend that you give the mod community some time with the tools this game provides.  It has been stated many times that you can produce a RPG style game with quests, triggered events, etc.  I fully expect the mod community to produce at least a few RPGs.

You know, when I first saw Beta 2 I thought the same thing as you. I wanted Civ with Magic, not a sandbox. But now that Elemental is "done", I'm quite happy with the design.

Damn, this is a poorly thought through post. Might be the weakest criticism thread I have read on here that wasn't simply deleted.

I wouldn't classify TBS games focused mostly on tactical combat, like HOMM/Disciples 3/King's Bounty "sandbox" games. They are fairly linear and campaign-driven, and have little in terms of worldmap strategy by comparison.  On the plus side, they have much better tactical combat. But yes, 4X grand strategy games like Civ, Gal Civ, and EWOM have an entirely different focus, and derive most of their value from sandbox mode, player freedom, and modability.

This.  King's Bounty and Fantasy Wars/Elven Legacy are great story-driven, campaign-focused, turn-based strategy games.

And do come back in a few months. Stardock called the campaign that shipped "Book 1" and made no effort to hide the fact that The Story Will Go On. And modders will no doubt go crazy with the ssytem, especially once they start figuring out all the xml and python. Nobody's going to say Elemental's perfect right now just the way it is, but you're doing yourself a disservice to judge it finally based on what you see here. It's designed to stick around for awhile. ^_^

you speak with reason klaxton (even though i don't agree that kings bounty is a soid choice) but it's just the dissapointment of this company just not creating the kind of games i like from the get go with all the resources that entails. i should have known better not to get my heart broken again.
