Why is magic so weak?

Why is magic so weak?

Overall I find the game to be enjoyable but my god at how weak magic is.  Any farmer with a bow and arrow is more effictive than your channeler, who constantly misses with his/her blizzards and rians of fire, and when they actually do hit they do so for 1-10 damage (even with the 30-40 int you have).  It is a bit silly that a sovern with a bow and some strength does so much more damage than one throwing around the forces that shape the universe.  Why would anyone serve them? Why did the titans care about controlling magic? They should ahve just hired black smiths.  Groups of units have hundreds and hp attack and defense, and you are supposed to care about 10 damage (when you are so lucky as to hit).  Fire your sovern and hire a few thugs, you will get farther in the world.

Shards should help regen rate right?  Also, slow regen is there to encourage you to embue champions with essence- because then you have multiple units regen mana every turn meaning you get to cast more spells on average per turn.

Try leaving your units in a city for a turn or two- maybe I'm imagining things but I think you regen mana faster when in cities.  That might be my imagination or the effect of buildings I'm not considering though.

I got a glitch where my mana fully refilled every turn instead of 1/turn.  That game, magic was far from powerless.  In fact, it was a lot more like I'd expected the game to be.  Teleporting every turn, casting several AoE spells per combat turn, battle after battle... good times.  :D

The mana regeneration system serious needs re-work.  1/turn is flat out too restrictive for one of the most potentially fun and exciting mechanics in the game.

I think it's your imagination. I have never seen any of my Channelers regen more than 1 mana per turn in any city.

If you get a couple of cities to level 5 you can build a tower that gives you +2 mana regen per turn in each one. It adds up quickly late game.

Another reason magic is so weak, brought up in the chat: the best combat spell is the equivalent of a single 20 atk weapon that scales with Int rather than Str.  Yeah, there are shards (when not bugged), but there are also squads... and weapons go far beyond 20 atk.

Weapons open you up to counter attacks and you just cant screw with your enemey in the same way you can with spells though.

My fav combination when i feel like going dragon slaying is deflect and any other ability that stop the enemies next move, the earth elementals tremor works quite well and you can summon one for every one of your casters, failing that stab of ice works well against single large targets.

It can't move, it can't counter attack, you can kill anything with 0 damage provided you have the mana regen to deal with it. So yeah magic's both overpowered AND underpowered depending on where and when you use it.
