Custom vs Pre-made sovs

I've just tried makeing a custom sov again after a few succsseful games with my last one.

Is it just me or is it impossible to match the pre-made sov for stats? Takeing Porcipinee as an example, she has all spell books, 8 stength, 8 Dexterity, 15 wisdom, 15 intellect, 15 constitution and 9 charisma. The mediative talent and no weakness's.

I can't come anywhere near that. What gives?

They cheat

If you want something smilar to this you ahve to edit the xml files, and before you ask no i dont know which ones. Have a look in the mod forum.

its the other way around with custom factions vs premade. you get tons of points to spend on strengths where the premades only have very few.

The premades are based on the world lore so they're a bit special! They also get some spellbooks that are unavailable to custom Sovereigns on creation.

No they don't, you get death or life automatically depending on which faction you play.

If pre-made sovs could be micmicked with custom ones, what would be the incentive to play premade sovs?

SD have been pushing to make customization available to us, what i'm getting at is why penalize us for just makeing use of the tools given to us by the devs? Fair enough it's not a big disadvantage but it's still a disadvantage.

Being able to choose *exactly* the stats you want is its own advantage. People can make much better decisions about what works in the game than the computer does. For instance , most of the canned Sovs have multiple elemental damage spellbooks, when really most of those are interchangeable right now so only picking one gives your character a more unique identity, and frees up points to be put to better use.

I wouldn't trade one of my custom sovs for any of the canned sovs.

The better question is why on earth would you use a pre made Sov if they *didn't* have some merit over custom sovs?

Ok first off pre-made sovs are great for people who are learning and don't yet know what the stats really do or for people that just aren't interested in customizing everything. Yeah they're out there...

and there's an advantage to haveing every single elemental spellbook (not yet considering it's broken, but there's meant to be!). You are covered regardless of which shards you can grab, where as if you only took say fire and water, then got 3 earth shards, well that'd be bad.

Go to your My Documents folder, go to My Games, Elemental, and then Units.

In there you will find your custom sovereign once they're created. Open that file and you can freely alter their stats, books, starting equipment, etc if you wanna be on par with a premade. This won't affect a game in progress, if I recall correctly, but once altered, your sovereign will reflect the changes on the Sovereign select screen, so you will only have to do this once. So if you're starting a new game, create the sovereign, quit the game, make your changes, then play.

I definitely think the spell books should cost more, the items should be cheaper and there should be more less severe disadvantages.

Agreed, i dont want a super sovereign i just want the pre-mades brought inline with what's acheivable with the points you're given as a player. I'm more concerned about the implications for multiplayer than anything seeing as how the AI cheats anyway.

If you could make custom sovereigns like the pre-made ones, then Procipinee's description wouldn't be accurate anymore: she wouldn't be the most powerful channeller after the Cataclysm ... ok that's a dumb reason, but it is one

I will agree. If there is no advantage of a PRE-MADE versus a CUSTOM... why pick a PRE-MADE? However, many games do equalize them. Ever play the pen and paper D&D? You can get the pre-made characters for a specific scenario or make your own. Sometimes they are as good, sometimes better, and most of the time worse. It is time over effect. Are you willing ot make your own character or just pick one that fits you already?

Playing the paper and pen D&D, it can take hours to fine tune a new character - even a level 1 character. Pre-mades are meant to be played fast and out of the box as is. This is a minor point. I am sure we will see a MOD game where it will boost custom soverigns to be godlike at level 1. Then what will be the point of that?

I wouldn't pick the premades period. I'm not a fan of playing someone I didn't create when the option to create is available.

If someone thinks that a character is super neat they will play it regardless of its stats. This was a repeated observation in high school, carried through magic cards, pokemon, video games, and eventually event DND.

Many of us spent far less time looking at stats and spent more time looking at the character itself and the backstory involved.

None of the main characters stand out to me but I didn't exactly buy this game to have them be awesome. I don't play any of the premades in Galactic Civilization either.
