Anyone making a MOM mod

Anyone making a true MOM mod with your sovereign staying in his tower and having multiple races and races, nodes, and planes of reality.

I would love to just have a MOM remake. No real improvements but be able to be trolls or klackons and elves and have to fight to gain power from the nodes. City building could be simply like in Civ where if you have enough resources you can build it. Don't need fertile land but it will help.

You guys know where I am coming from. I guess I will have to learn to Mod but wouldn't it be great to just remake MOM and explore the whole map and grab extra books and goodies just to do it all over again. Love MOM for that reason. Every game was awesome with so many strategies to employ it was endless.

From different races to planes to the heroes you used, the traits you picked or didn't pick, and spells you used.

I would love it too brotha, but unfortunately that is a little out of the question right now.

First Stardock needs to flesh out the spells a little bit more so that we have something to work with. We could seriously mod about 40% of the MOM spells with what we have right now but thats nowhere near enough.

Second npc's need alot more abilities than what they have right now. Right now we have a list of about 10 npc specials but need around 100. i.e. things like stone gaze etc..

Third there needs to be some serious model work done by the community which will take a long time.

On a good note though this game is superior in some aspects to MOM and shows tons of promise with the ability to mod next to everything. Seriously we can do everything from creatiing custom tiles, to changing the music in game to even changing the graphics in game how awesome is that.

How are you making the determination on this "40%" number regarding spells?  I am fairly certain that your first and second points can be modded already.  Third... well, many high/superior quality models can be farmed from nwvault.ign.com.

I'm not sure about 40%, but I'm going to assume that the majority of it involves global enchantments, combat enchantments, some city specific enchantments, and some unit enchantments. We haven't seen an example of any globals, yet, so until we do nobody is really going to be able to put one in. I also don't see a way to change what terrain does. Elemental has its basis for special terrain types like fertile land, but MOM uses just straight up terrain type for its base, so we need to know how to generate food and production based off grass fields, forests, mountains, etc.

As to unit abilities, there does not seem to be a way to have passive on-hit, or on engagement abilities from what I've seen so far. Also doesn't seem to be a way to add magical effects to weapons. Or a way to transfer weapons/items without the use of hero-to-hero trade, or buying from a market place.

How would we also mod in a wizard tower, summoning circle, remove roaming random heroes from the playing field, introduce a secondary plane, add in an "explore" option for dungeons, and so much more I can think of.

And I think the biggest question is ... how do we get the AI to actually use this stuff once it is in?

Once they expose more of the internal games we can start looking at a total conversion, right now I'll be happy if we can get unit specific abilities in (like unit specific mana regen, not a global mana regen change.) And definitely some new spells, because the only reason to have all schools of magic is because of how rare shards can become in any given game.

There were only a handful of global enchantments.  Even so, I believe we can still do them.  There is a difference between not knowing how to mod things and not being able to.  I believe that everything that you have commented on can be done.  It merely takes knowledge, talent, effort, and time.  The game has only been out a couple of days.  From what I have read from Stardock and witnessed in this and other modding communities, it will get done.  Will it be a 100% clone?  Doubtful.  But it may actually be better.

The only thing that likely cannot be done is a secondary plane.  But that could potentially be mimicked by cutting the single plane in half.

These changes are great but im far more interested in getting the character stats and random heroes (abilities) from MoM into this game. So where is this mod and how one can participate?

There are some people working on it right now. Will just cross my fingers and play around with the modding tools myself.

As the gameplay expands with Stardock's plans, more and opporitunities to modify the existing game will appear.  I think that Stardock has every intention of helping us have a great time mod the games.

Personally, I'm astounded by the mod support in this game.

As do I. Dosbox and an old MoM just doesn't have the magic it once had to these jaded eyes.

I truly hope this game will be better than MoM, mind you, I love the masterpiece but 16 yrs later we can demand more ;)

As for now the biggest fear I have are the calculations, 1dN systems are just... Wrong IMHO ("h" not being there for sarcasm), we need some better calculation, maybe even a division between to hit and damage. Also new unit stats like individual elemental resistances would be needed in the long run to truly mod MoM (You hit Fire Giant with Melting touch for 100 dmg...? Hell no!).

Since I fear all those things are hardcoded (correct me if I'm wrong, I have really no idea here...) I hope SD is willing to change their system.

System that has been in place since GC I... ;) time to move on guys

edit: wrong word

I posted an idea about reworking the attribute system that would give different resistances via the attributes depending on what was being attacked by the spell. At least that was part of the idea.

Linky? Also, sorry to bother, but what is the game you are using as avatar? It looks familiar to me but I can't nail it down...
