My wife died! I want a divorce!

Ok so I'm married, and my wife was killed by bandits, so how do I remarry? Seriously we don't have a kid yet, and if I can't remarry I'm just cheated out of a dynasty.

That's just harsh. Give it at least a week before you start thinking about remarrying. Play Elemental meantime.

(on a more serious note i have no idea how to remarry in the game)

I realize you are talking about a game, but others may not at first read. Keep in mind that the Home>Misc forum cross-posts to many SD forums and your title would be considered in very poor taste on some sites.

Perhaps you could reword it a bit?;)

Your spouse isn't just an object you own. She is a living being with feelings and everything (well, that's the rumour). If you fail in your duties to protect your spouse, you don't deserve a dynasty.

"Oh, yes, I'll marry you, oh Lord that left his two previous wives to get killed by bandits!" XD

I take it you haven't heard of how the Anglican Church got started then?

Don't get a divorce, get a donut!

you shouldn't need a divorce, you are widower, you should just be able to remarry.

@Wintersong: Should he have forced his adventurer warrior wife to be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen where she is safe from bandits instead of letting her lead armies to battle?

PS. I am pretty sure you were joking though :P

Well, considering how the Dynasty system is currently implemented, you have the following choices:

  1. risk your spouse early to have an extra combatant (or channeler as I use her) but potentially being easier for her to get killed and let you without heirs (and knowing that you cannot marry again, that's quite a huge of disadvantage).
  2. let the spouse in safe place. At least unit you have got the max kids possible (4) from her (him if you go female). Once you have all the babies, it's not so important if the spouse dies (hopefully not, specially if channeler).

I usually risk my spouse but only because I make her channeler and take her with me and lots of troops (and avoid ranged enemies unless I can first strike them to avoid the risk of my squishy channelers being shoot down due to their lame HP pool).

Pretty much... and those can be summed up as:

1. Warrior queen.

2. Pregnant and barefoot in the kitchen.

The problem with the warrior queen route is that you cannot remarry if something bad happens... this means #2 is the only sensible choice.

PS. Its dynasty not dinasty

During the beta I married my wife while I was away from the city. I was out adventuring. Later, much to my surprise, I was notified my wife had a baby! Yeah for me!.... wait....  I have been away adventuring and I have been no where near my wife. How did she have a baby while I was away?! I shall hunt down the scoundrel who did this and remove him from the world. Was it you?!

Keep her by your side while adventuring.

3)  Pregnant barefoot warrior queen who gives birth in the wilderness after battle.

I got super long range seed so its all good! XD Seriously they could/should implement it, where in order to have kids you must be in the same city/tile... no more detailed than that though, its kinda funny thatg my wife has a kid while I am currently invading someone half a world away! Unless she is indeed sleeping around.. in which case calls for a beheading! XD

Ironically I was thinking the same thing.   My min... peoples have feelings and everything.  That is why I make sure they are so poor and miserable that they can only assume I am some kind of diety!   (I take after the Goa'uld)

I don't see why spouses can't be treated like dirt. (especially male ones.  They ONLY benefit from being around me, since unlike women I cannot burden them with my seed for 9 months)

Well then just turn into a male and have women spouse(s) :P
