Kingdom/Empire Terrain

Does anyone know exactly what controls the Terrain changes in Empire and Kingdom areas of influence? I thought it would be really cool to mod them further, so that some morph the terrain to desert and snow instead of just darkness and grasslands. Personally I'm a bit disappointed that all empires turn the land dark and dead while all kingdoms turn it nice and green, it really just doesn't seem fitting for some empires and kingdoms.

Yes! The <EnvironmentTerrainType> in your faction's .XML file will define the terrain. Here are some of the values:

  1. Fallen
  2. Kingdom/Grassy
  3. Desert
  4. Snow

I believe there is a faction creation guide somewhere in the mod forums if you can dig that up. Good luck!

Strike that, seems the file I'm looking for is CoreRaceConfigs.xml in the \Elemental War of Magic\data\English folder

I think its more a case of if your contemplating moding an xml file you should be able to find it. (not meant as a put down)

I wouldn't recommend modding any of the Core files either. Your bound to lose ANY and ALL progress if Stardock releases an updated that so much as touches that file. It'll also probably mess up multiplayer. I suggest you make a new faction and modify them.

Does anyone know the Terrain Type for Swamp. A bit embarrassing but apparently players can build on swamps, maybe the pre-patched version didn't allow it or maybe I mistakenly tried building in forest. In any event I'd like to make default terrain for Tarth swamp, and if there are different types of swamp, Grassland Swamp.
