[suggestion] Lets put NPC`s to work

During the game one collects lots of NPC`s with small bonuses. Why cant we put these to work. Let the +1 Gildar NPC work at a money related building (gold mine, market or something) for an extra bonus. Same with the others. One building should be able to hold one NPC of "the same output". This way I would actually be looking for certain bonuses (due to the buildings I have) and not just hireing whatever I meet. To balance this of one could make NPC`s sligthly more expensive to get.

Sounds good?

If you want to try my "Traits and Abilities Mod" it sort of puts characters to work. All the abilities and traits are rebalanced a bit so that they function a little more like you'd expect. For example, a Merchant will make money, however, he'll make more money if he is placed in a city and also boost city commerce. You have to choose if you want them stationed in a city (gaining the best of their abilities) or out exploring, conquering, or adventuring.

Unfortunately, I don't believe that we'll be able to station units inside of buildings. There might be a way to "station" them at improvements (ie. mines) but idk how to do that yet.

But yes, lets put them to work.

This is exactly what I have been asking for throught Beta. It would serve many purposes, including greater gameplay choice / decision making (the heart of any game), would make NPCs more useful and interesting, and would make cities more useful and interesting. This would be especially great if it could generate quests, ie: I station an Arcane Researcher at a Study and he might generate a quest based on an old scroll he was looking at.

This sort of thing could have make Elemental feel a bit more alive, with the cities becoming more interactive instead of being static stat blocks.

I haven't messed with questing but if someone can implement quests like that it'd be awesome. It certainly would make it feel more alive (also, quests should gain exp :P).
