Does recruited character have to reside in city to gain his bonus?

I searched the forums and can't find out anything on this. When a character offers to join me for 37 gildar and his card says he will add a bonus to farming, do I have to park him in a city to take advantage of this?

Thanks

Yea know,

I'm curious about this too, and haven't quite figured that out yet either, so if anyone happens to know the answer please let us know :)

Well,

Just tested with the first NPC you usually get, it says he produced 1 gildar per turn, and i made sure he was outside the city's influence and my city was still receiving 1 gildar per turn, so I guess that answer the question. The champions do not to be in the city to get the benefits from it.

I assumed they had to be and have been parking them in the city I wanted to get the bonus, but it would be good to know for sure. Now that I think about it I don't think the bonus is showing up in the city resource info page as adding to the modifier.

It may depend on the champion though. Some like administrator and farmer say "...to the city." not to mention that an across the board 10% boost to production or food would be really really good. An equally interesting question though is if abilities stack - if you have two farmers, do you get 10%.

I tested this last night and it seemed to me that you dont get that bonus at all, whether the recruited hero is in the city or not.

The answer is it depends on the hero.

For heroes that state you gain x/turn, where x is gilder, tech knowledge, ect, they do NOT need to be in a city.

For heroes that add a % improvement (+20% boost to farming) they DO need to be in a city. They will only add that production to the city they are stationed in and the bonuses DO stack.

My only queston is for heroes that have a bonus % to production. I am not sure what "production" refers to. Is that everything? Food? Metal? Research?... Not sure, anyone know?

It would be nice to have a screen that would show you the bonus's and what the cause is for them. Or is there already a screen for that?

Ah, thanks for answering. Yay farmers!

Not sure on production though. I didn't see it any of the info screens so I'm guessing it's unit and building production?

Aye it is the city stat screen; it details what your city is generating and what bonuses it has.  I know if you click a city and hit the "more" button on the vitals tab you can get there.

I don't know if it lists bonuses from heroes though.

HOWEVER, if your using my "Traits and Histories Mod" then they do get greater bonuses while stationed in a city. Check it out!

So are ALL recruitable characters heros? If you create them yourself they are just a minion but if you find them wandering about then they are a hero?

That is correct glucero. You can also get heros the old fashion way; have children. Each child you have will mature into a hero at the age of 18. Once they are of age, you can arrange them to be married to an offspring of another soverign. Once they are married, your female children are turned over to the husbands family, and your son's wife becomes a part of your empire.

When your married children then procreate there is a % chance that their children (your grandchildren) will either join your faction of the faction of person your child married.

You can view the bonus they provide by opening up the city screen and clicking on the food resource. This will drill down further and show you where your food bonuses are coming from.

Well, that then brings up another question: How does one marry in the first place?

Recruit a hero of the opposite sex to your Sov, then check the actions tab of said hero, you should see a wedding ring graphic to click on.

Thank you -- as I get more into the game I may or may not have ever found that!

I think part of the "problem" with Elemental is it really is a grand, old school strategy game. It has a ton of options, no decent documentation, and it takes a real investment to get the most out of it. I am enjoying it, and what I've seen of V1.05 so far looks good. It's still buggy, that was almost immediately apparent in the first few minutes of playing a new game, but it's still a ton of fun. And few games give you the amount of customization that Elemental does!
