Possible to get a refund?

I pre-ordered the game through Impulse; however, seeing the sorry state the game is in even after 1.05, I think I'm going to ask for a refund. Is it possible through Impulse?

Sorry, but I'm not paying $50 for a game that doesn't work.

And here it begins...

About a week of beta testing "gold" version could avoid this.

Brad, I think you have to fire that "compiler" O:)

Btw: still great game, but really hard to love it due to bugs.

Sorry, gotta side with Sendark on this:

I !love! the game when it works. Unfortunately it's rare for the game to work for more than an hour. If I'd wanted to beta test and post error reports I'd have signed up for the beta.

I bought the game to support stardock making fun games, I'll hold of on purchasing the next one for a few months after release so I can play something that works more than half the time. I'd have rather waited a week or a month longer for a great game rather than getting what could have been a great game.

Where is the problem?

Counting in the history of Stardock regarding game support (GalCiv II for instance) it will "only" a matter of weeks for the game to be stable and playable. They really work hard at the problems.

Call it an exercise in patience.   ;-)

Today you call it chaos, in four weeks from now you'll call it an interesting experience.

So just calm down and wait a while. Things can only get better (and in case of Stardock they will get better!!)

Cheers

The problem is they released it now instead of in four weeks.

I won't stop buying their games, but I'm sure as hell waiting a month or two after release to buy the next one. I'm glad you're finding it an interesting experience, but I signed up for a fun experience :)

Really guys, how can software/games users not understand that this is the best production model for us?

Designing is an iterative process. If they go all the way, expansions included, and release them all at once... then we wouldn't like half of it. This way we get a playable, complete yet improvable game first, and then we can HELP SHAPE future developments. Frankly this is the reason why I'm here.

Things are going as expected, I think. People are reacting, and the developers will focus on the major, recognized issues (like the lack of randomized maps).

Have some patience and be constructive in the forums. I think there are reasons to think it will pay off.

I had such high hopes for patch 1.05... But now I'm starting to feel as though I paid $50 for the right to beta test... This game has ALOT of bugs, and in my opinion was not ready for for release. Seriously, does anyone expect Civ 5 to come out in this condition? Could you imagine if Starcraft 2 released with this level of glitches?! Look, I really wanted this game to be good, and the potential is still there for it to be great... but to release it in a state that is so unstable bothers me. I was trying to be optimistic, I was really excited about the day 0 patch... then I played for about an hour, clicked an NPC, and BAM! Back to desktop... kinda sad, kinda mad...

End of mastroego's quote

The lack of a playable and complete game is the issue that makes ppl angry here. So far i dont think i have ever hit the end game button a CTD always did that for me. Add to that the weak performance and a lot of minor bugs, i have found in just a few hours of playing makes this game just not ready for release.

Let be a bit realistic here. All games, no matter how well beta tested, will have game-stopping bugs for some people. This is impossible to avoid. You were just unlucky to be those people. Don't go around abusing Stardock for not achieving the impossible and dishonestly claim that everyone has the same experience as you.

I feel your pain but the way you go about it is dishonest and disrupting.

Agreeing wholeheartedly with Keldian here. I've started 6 new games, all 6 have ended in crashes, the most recent being after the 1.05 patch. Definitely not playable on alot of systems right now... and knowing the dev team is taking a few days off, well, I'm just miffed at myself for spending the $ at this stage of the game

i saw the game came out today and purchased it off of impulse.  it is totally unplayable for me, i get a white screen where i can do nothing every time i enter a battle, and any time i try to reload my game without closing and reopening the program.

as the original poster asked is there anyway to get my money back?  because this is a beta test i just payed $50 to enter and I'm a lil less than happy (was bad enough there is not even any multiplayer support as of yet.
