Patch 1.05 suggestions Thread - Feel free to add your own!

The patch is working great but I made this thread to give some feedback for future builds. Please add your own suggestions!

Unit Design needs more custom options. More hair/shirts/pants/etc maybe a little color wheel to tweak the color?

I really like the Zoom to City mode when you're building, but it still doesn't "snap" back to your normal view after you're done, making it a nuisance in my opinion because i have to manually reset the camera.

What exactly does having more population do? Do I get more gildar from having a larger population because of tax? It's not explained

I have extra HP when I have units stationed in a town. Nothing explains why.

You need more voice acknowledgments that "Hmm?" and "Yes?" I have a great voice. I'll even help.

How about being able to set up your army on specific tiles in tactical mode before you go into battle? You could even make it a trait or something.

Let me make female soldiers, pleeaaaase.

Alt-tabbing with my ATI card still crashing the game.

It would be nice to have a city info screen that gave more information and feedback.

Having to go back to heal in your town in the campaign really stinks and messes up with the flow of the game. At least give minimal HP recovery when your unit doesn't move or something and use those health packs for a major HP boost.

You should be able to sell old equipment.

You should be able to buy more than one item at a time.

I can't wear leather greaves and boots? Aren't greaves pants?

There should be a market of some sort where you can trade resources like materials and metal and food for gold and vice versa.

Game still needs more variation in Tactical combat battle grounds.

In addition to the above:

Please fix scrolling in the text & store inventory boxes. It isn't consistent. When it does work your pointer has to be in a narrow area. I want it to scroll whenever I'm in that 'window' and use the scroll wheel.

alt-tab with nvidia card also crashes my game

How about being able to scroll through your units in the city when you are buying stuff from the merchant

requests:

holding shift doesn't screw up the mouse.

comments:

The building queue camera only gets "stuck" if you try to focus on something as it  zooms out. just be patient for now.

Voice Acting/Effects is one of the first thing that you lose when you play indie games. They don't have the budget for it. Sorry, but we aren't going to have a large variety of audio clips for a long time.

Large population does nothing either than (eventually) get you to a larger city threshold, which expands your area of influence and provides the level-up bonus, as well as unlocking higher tier buildings. You also build soldiers out of population, so they do have a purpose beyond just hitting a threshold.

You can sell your old equipment. Go to a city and go to your inventory.

Market -> Diplomacy. The AI are kinda stupid when it comes to trading... That said, I do like how they did the percieved value. WAY better than having to play "guess" like in Civ games.

Egalitarian allows you to create female soldiers.

Towns provide HP bonuses as a benefit to garrisoning. It's the only benefit they give to defense (I think... at least until you get walls, maybe).

You can buy more than one item at a time :P

If nothing else having a larger population upgrades your city to the next city-level which is needed for the better improvements.

Factions with the Egalitarian trait have both male and female soldiers.

Same for my nVidia updated with the latest drivers right before installing the last patch.

You should be able to sell old equipment.

You can.  There is a tab on the Merchant screen to toggle between buying and selling equipment.  It would be awfully nice though if you could see your currently equipped items while in the merchant screen.  Ideally you should be able to buy new items, replace the old items, and sell the old items all without leaving the merchant screen.

You should be able to buy more than one item at a time.

I'm not sure I understand this complaint.  Are you still talking about buying equipment for your sovereign and NPC adventurers?  You should be able to buy as many items as you want without leaving the merchant screen.

I was rather surprised by this as well.

Possible bug: When a city is selected, and then when the player attempts to select another city or unit, the camera scrolls back to the previously selected city. Only way to combat this is to manually deselect the city

Possible bug: I'm not sure if this is 1.5 specific, but i just started a game and within 7-10 tiles of my starting city are TONS of resources (2x gold mine, 1x tech, 1x arcane, 1x material mine, like 3x food). This is after i upgraded maps once, and if I'm correct (i might not be) the little rocks scattered around could be resources that must be upgraded to use. If thats true, I have like a billion of them around.

I'd like to see auto-explore work better.   I'm playing on a large map, and realized after  a couple of hundred turns that my map was still mostly unexplored, and was disappointed to find out that my plan to send out a few random scouts was dead before it got out the door.

I'd like to have a more detailed accounting screen showing where all my resources are coming from and going to, so I can better understand where any problems I'm having with money/food/resources are coming from.

When I highlight a quest in my quest log, I'd like to have the map center on the destination for that quest (if there is one).

That's it for now.

Just quick thoughts and few bugs...

- Color sliders/more options for unit design.

- Spell particle effects...noticed fireball has sound but no animation =/

-Archer's arrow auto follow toggle button...very annoying.

- Game still seems like it has a memory leak. Not unplayable but noticeable after about turn 75. Scrolling through the map becomes a bit twitchy, and animations seem to stutter. Its noticeable upon unit movement too. Though this doesn't seem to happen during battles at all. Game just appears to really slow down, every 50 or so turns I just save and restart to bump framerate back up.

- Ran into bug where the movement icon is displayed during level up, can't click the stat arrows to level up very easily.

- Game stutters/stops momentarily anytime a quest book pops up on screen during campaign (could be from memory leak).

- Option to navigate world with arrow keys.

*** SPOILER***

During the campaign once you pass the queen's blockade it doesn't appear you can get back to your capital city. My hero died and I want to heal him up, but I cannot move past the bloackade now.

From a separate post I have going:

So, for one - hardware detection.  I really felt like the game did a very poor job of detecting the optimal graphics, sound, etc, settings for my pc.  I'm not even sure if there is a check in there for your hardware or what, but my 5.1 surround system was identified as stereo speakers.  My 5850 radeon was not powerful enough to handle all of the max settings, etc.  So, I didn't like that.  But really, that's just a minor polish piece.  Anyway, I change my settings.  There is no OK button.  I expect to see it, but I see nothing.  I click on Main Menu after making my changes and then see a pop up indicating that these changes will require a restart.  Then, I see that there is no restart button.  I have to exit the game and then relaunch it.  Most current games have a change settings and then click ok button.  Also, most games prompt you to restart the game after you choose new settings if a restart is required.  Anyway, I personally think that the more the initial start up and configuration of Elemental is like AAA titles, the better.  Anyway, just my feedback.  If its not that difficult to implement in the future, I think this may be an easy win towards making the game feel more polished.  Thanks!

Edit - also, when I start my first game, I'm immediately confused.  I want to start the campaign mode, but I see the options "New Game" and "Campaign."  Most games start with campaign mode and then have a sandbox mode and/or MP mode.  The menu layout seems to indicate that New Game is what I should click on... and then try Campaign (order of importance).  For me, I want to play the campaign and then play skirmish mode or sandbox mode.  Anyway, I think you should reverse the items AND change the labeling for Campaign (item 1) and then Skirmish (item 2).

edit 2 - after playing the campaign for the first time, I meet up with janusk (or something to that effect)... in short, its just him and me after I survive a shipwreck.  I click on the crown.  I am able to design troop upgrades.  From a new player point of view, I have NO idea why I can design upgrades for my troops (its just me and 1 other guy) - I don't have a peasant or pioneer or anything.  I'm not at all sure why this is enabled at this point... it just adds confusion and takes away from the me and some guy made it out alive from a shipwreck story.   Its quite normal to check out the ui as you play a new game, and the ui enables settings that I don't need at this point in the game... which makes things for confusing... please disable elements that serve no purpose in the campaign until they are needed. edit - it actually seems like the crown icon should be disabled or all of the subcategories disabled until its possible to utilize them.  You turned off a few of the subs, but not all of them... Just think about the world as it is RIGHT THEN - you are shipwreck survivor - WTF are you doing having a button talking about dynasties, etc at this point?  Where are the troops that don't exist going to be upgraded to?  Etc. I hope I don't sound too crass, but I just want to give you some reasonable feedback based on my initial impressions and I think they would very much mirror any new player.

edit 3 - then I meet the third member (maybe of my crew?) - I took a screenshot but I just get a black screen so can't paste - anyway, the dialog says MIRAMOUS - "I see more than urgency in your eyes, boy.  Please, if you are heading north, take a moment to hear my tale."  Ok, so great, I'm interested and want to know what this guy has to say.  But guess what my immediate response is?  "Excellent.  You will make a fine addition to our kingdom."  Um... wtf?  Guy appears and wants to tell me what's going on in the north.  My response is - you will make a fine addition to our kingdom... ????  I walk up to a guy on the street.  He says he wants to tell me a story.  I say, you will make a fine addition to my household.  Doesn't make sense.  Anyway, I'm guessing this is a generic response.  Perhaps it should be changed to "go on..." or "ok..." or anything other than, you will make a fine addition to my kingdom.  If you want a quick out that fixes this at least to some degree - maybe change it to - "Click to continue."  In coding speak, maybe setup something so you have a few options - if dialog = generic, then "click to continue."  If recruiting, then "you will make a fine addition..." and so on.

end-of-turn-wait option. Sometimes I like to move everything, think about've just seen and build accordingly. And on this turn, not the next.

and if i missed this: I want to be able to color my soldiers armor :-)

edit: I would very much appreciate it if a hooded cloak would not wipe out my hair and hair-color. Especially since I am still experimenting with the look of the sovereign/warrior.

Other than that.... well... just keep doing what you do Stardock! Alas, it is crunchweek at my own software development country, otherwise I'd be spending the day uhm, thinking about a difficult bug, yes, that's it... ;-)

As been mentioned in other posts, an equipment comparitor window when buying things at the city market trader.

I'd also like it if the victory window list displayed the characters that died and took the most damage were at the top of the list for quick viewing.

There is a bug where the white text under the picture on the unit cards is lower than the black strip and often overlaps the black text in the white box. Whew, thats a mouth full. Basically the text on some cards shows up in the wrong place. Most notably caravans. But not for all units. Just a select few that I've come across.

Overall 1.05 is far cleaner and alot more stable than its predecessors. Excellent job Stardock!

I'd love to be able to change the hotkey combo that brings up Reactor, as it's the same as the Steam one, and having both come up at the same time causes me to have to do musical chairs to get to the one that I wanted.

I'm on turn 215 and i'm noticing the game stuttering too. Also the tutorial popups seem to have disappeared, I was hoping they would still be more detailed.

Thanks for the answers everyone. I figured out selling equipment after I posted.

Another bug I found - My fireball animation is not coming up sometimes when I cast the spell.

more special abilities to spice up combat and unit design!

for the most part - two thumbs up though :)

Allow those with life magic to sacrifice essence (large amounts) to create fertile ground. Allow those with death magic to gain essence by destroying fertile ground.

Also I want to be able to steal princesses (spouses) either through diplomacy or... physical means.

Here is my list:

  • Mancer (Male) has no facial hair options
  • Mancer (Female) has no pants options and need more vests
  • Amerian (Female) has no eyes and needs more clothing options (mostly dresses) *
  • Krath (Female) have only one head option

* NOTE: I made a fix for this back in BETA 4. Check the mod section for my Character Mod.

New Day-0 Concerns:

  • The dagger got nerfed and isn't really worth having anymore. It's almost as expensive as the Axe with less attack then the Spear. Also lost it's speed bonus
  • Perhaps the armor basic techs (leather) should be available sooner and not after shortswords? I think it should be seperate and developed parallel to weapons. Thus, you can focus on either offense or defense.

Bugs For Stardock to Fix:

  • The "Inventory" button under the actions tab doesn't display right, wrong icon.

Same problem as you. Only happens on this computer though and not on my other laptop.

Honestly, this is just "another thread" unless you go through, organize, and lay out all the reported relevant bugs and concerns for Stardock to fix. Make it professional and easy for them to read. This will be worth something then.

EDIT: All that and the forums broke my post :(

I think you can actually change the steam one in settings. Still be nice to have the option to change both, but that might help you out for the time being.

There is. Just turn off "auto-turn". Honestly, I'm not sure why it's defaulted to "on" in the first place.

edit: Having specific inventory tabs in the shop would probably go a long way too. Like Weapons/Armor/Other

Day 0 patch notes:

+ Outposts and such now provide +HP to units stationed

Granted, it would be helpful to have something in the game that informs the player.  Maybe something in the Hiergameon, the city screen, or a tooltip or some note on the unit card.

I'm not sure why but sometimes in tactical battles my soldiers walk and other times they just instantly appear in another tile. Also sometimes my spells have animations and other times they just make a noise. What gives?

I know I can, but as much as I love Elemental I am not changing my Steam settings for one game when I have a bunch more I regularly play as well.

OK, I typed out many points, pressed ctrl+f and bust the window, so now I'm retyping and may edit in more later on as I remember/find them again, forgive me for doing so, but I care.

Bugs:

  • Some techs have benefits which aren't clickable at all (such as trade).
  • While my character is level 5 and has researched "quests" once, quest places (so far only "Morrigan's Lair" and "Treasure Chest") say I need to be level 3/4 and am level 1 currently.  Other quests ("Odd Hut") say I need to be level 2 and I am currently level 2. Why do they say I'm different levels? bug.

  • Influence boundaries not visible when i alt-tab back into game (sometimes).
  • City tags (above city) not visible when I alt-tab back into game (sometimes).
  • Game still crashes a lot when alt-tabbing back into game with v1.05. (I should mention I've noticed how to evade this issue, alt-tab when you have some in-game menu open, such as tech, spellbook, etc.)

  • Sometimes I get a random enemy/neutral city's tag over one of mine. I've just noticed I see it on the map and I also gain a 1x1 tile sight into that city. I can see units garrisoned and click their pictures to see their stats.

  • On "easy" difficulty I killed an AI's army and took his capital city (he was empire, I am Kingdom), this settlement won't expand now, it has population 167 of 190+ (approx.) and is still at "level 1" and won't expand borders nor level - Game breaker. (I would like to note "easy" does not need to be harder, 3 other civs are seriously large and forcing me to work extremely efficiently as not to die.)

  • Holding shift and moving mouse usually makes the mouse cursor stutter, this didn't happen to me when I first tried it with v1.05, then it happened again and persists.

Note:

  • Nowhere am I told what character stats do (e.g. does Intelligence also further empower summoned creatures?).
  • Some techs also give benefits which aren't clickable (such as trade), so I can't be sure what they do.
  • Does the building that "increases unit mana regeneration" also increase my sov's mana regeneration? (not specified).
  • What limits are there on the spells "motivation", "brilliance" etc? Only one per each city? Only one such spell active at a time? Needs specifying.
  • Certain Techs say they are "likely" or "unlikely" to be discovered. Please explain this. What effects these chances? If I fail, do i simply not attain the tech? explain please.

  • I don't disagree with how it's implemented at the moment, but only being able to Heal in battle, strikes me as odd. By all means keep it if it's game balancing. I think it might be as soverigns are hard to kill near the start, so I guess healing on the world map would enable them to keep one large army at full fighting capacity for many many battles with enemy factions - I guess that'd be a "sovereign rush". Either way, only being able to heal with magic when in battle is fair enough, but strikes me as odd. Don't change it if it's that way for balancing!

Suggestions:

  • Battles need an option to speed up movement animations (and perhaps combat animations too). Some enemy's dodge takes like 3 seconds, with 8 single-man archers, that becomes a pain.

  • Battles need a Working option to not "auto select next unit", and for this, a way to differentiate between units that have and have not moved/ not expended all action points.

  • Buildings which you intend to build have benefits, one benefit is beneath the building button (bottom left), the other on the bottom right. When building, the bottom right tool tip should also appear next to the build button, having one benefit across the screen from the other feels weird, and people will/may oversee it.

  • Need some button in city view, to select all garrisoned units, as deselecting those you don't want will be faster than selecting those you do want sometimes, this will help Multiplayer a lot.

There were approx another 3 points (bugs) which I can't think of and won't restart my game another 20 times to remember.

I might re-post/edit when I can be bothered.  X(   ctrl+f I hate you.
