Campaign? Where to go on ship ??

Not to be dense but I'm having a lot of problems with the campaign. There seems no way to bring up quest or logs of what has happened.

So I'm a ship and I sailed all south; all east and all west but not much happens :)

Kind of dull sitting on a ship...

There are also quite a few annoying bugs where you will level or whatever and the dialog will get lost and the game will more or less freeze waiting for you to level.

You're looking for the campaign log:

Yeah there is a campaign log, but at least in 1.01 it's under a "Campaign" log tab separate from the "Quests" tab.

*** Spoilers  ***

The point of the boat seems to be to go inform the other kingdoms and see if they'll support you.  The log suggests that you send a couple guys on the boat clockwise to talk to each kingdom, while the main part of your army works west through the wastelands.

*** Even more spoilers ***

It is important to eventually work your way around and land some guys on a beach near the marked objective.  There's a quest checkpoint that can't be reached by land

*** Spoiler bug ***

In my 1.01 campaign i lost the final battle, but got credit for completing the campaign.  It was a pyrric loss i suppose as I did kill the um... larger of the bosses... so possibly working as intended.

I'm very confused when you say 'marked objective'. When looking at the cloth map I do not see any sort of marked objective. I *think* I have 1.01. I updated tonight and then restarted the campaign from beginning. I'm on something like chapter VI which I presume is near the end from what you said.

Hum. Tried to load my saved campaign and it crashed but was able to load it the second time around.

Ok campaign sez to sail to port hope where-ever that is. Hum. Ok I found one spot where I could land and fight a dragon and promptly died. I think I'm not doing this quite right because it was like why bother; one minute and caput it is over. Anyways while sailing the only leader that had anything to say was porcupine and she was not very helpful.

Port Hope refers to the land of Tarth, i.e., the folks who gave you Archers and asked you to fight Trolls.  Yeah it is confusing that they call it that.

When you sail back, and you may actually have to land a unit off your boat to go talk to them, they'll give you a few more archers and another boat.  If you also go talk to the miners they'll give you a little something too, i think it was some supplies.

Sorry if I confused you in my previous post when I said "marked objective" -- yeah I meant the boss battle.  It should have been revealed and (very subtly) highlighted on the cloth map that you see when you zoom out far enough, and indicated the place where your "land" and "sea" armies are meant to converge. Sounds like you found it.

Dragon and his friends have some nasty AOE spells that seem to ignore armor, so you need veterans and/or squads to survive long enough to take him down.  In my playthrough i tried to get my troops some extra veterancy by training on the Umberwolves and other monsters in the desert, but they took a lot of damage and i couldn't heal so far from town.  So I brought "fresh" troops trained as squadrons with one chevron of veterancy; you can choose those as an option on the training tab in your town once the appropriate Warfare techs are revealed.

Oddly enough - auto battle won it for me.  I was getting caned by the aoe but won with auto - go figure.
