Windows 7 64 bit, dual ATI 5850 cards - can't view game map

Windows 7 64 bit, dual ATI 5850 cards - can't view game map

All of the title screens, dropdowns, interfaces et al. show up just fine,  but the "zoomed in" map is completely white and nothing is visible.  When I zoom out to what I think is the cloth map, it appears in the negative as a black screen; I can see my hero and a few other things.  Changing the brightness, as recommended in a different thread, did not solve the problem.  Obviously the game is unplayable in that state.

I have the latest 10.7 ATI drivers, and also reloaded the older 10.4 driver in an unsuccessful attempt to make this work.  It sounds like other W7 64 owners with ATI cards have had problems, but I don't think anyone else has reported the same problem as yet.  Any help you can give would be appreciated!

I uploaded my debug.err file to pastebin.  It can be found at:  http://pastebin.ca/1931555

Also, this is from after the 1.07 update.

There seem to be a lot of people affected by this - I have the same issue with 1.07.  win7 x64 with single AMD 5870.  Why would such a very popular combination of OS and Video not have already been tested?

Personally I do not beleive that this is an ATI driver problem.  It seems from my reading and research to be a Win7 64bit problem.  Is there anyone who has been able to run the game on this OS?  I am giving it until the next patch and driver update and then I will begin asking for a refund.  This really sucks as I am in need of a good game to work on and hoped this would be it.

C0Y0T6, I tried numerous permutations, but what finally worked for me was 1) turning anti-aliasing off on my Elemental video options, and parricularly 2) going to windowed mode.  Exit out of the game and then reboot and start a new game.  There still is a white screen for a few seconds, but you then should get the 3D map.  Good luck!

I was in on the beta.  I never had this problem during the beta.  Everything worked fine.  It started with the release version.  Ironic isn't it?

I have been running in a window, and also tried limiting the game to a single core.  I have turned off the AA (the first thing that I did).  Still nothing on this.  Really disapointing.  My PC runs the most demanding of games at high frame rates.  This is a completely unsatisfactory result.  I am beginning my quest for a refund (or to spam everywhere about how bad the game is, Stardocks choice) today.  I hope to see them at least have service that is better than their coding.

OK.  So before calling to persue the refund options I decided to give it one more go.  I completely unitstalled all of the ATI drivers, rebooted, ran the guru3d driver cleaner program, rebooted, installed the latest drivers, rebooted. And tried the game....

Do you know what happened?  It worked and ran fabulously.  I was suprised and happy.  Now if I can just figure out some of these pesky game mechanics...

I highly recommend that anyone experiencing the white screen followed by the corruption of textures and shimmering to follow the steps above.  It is a little time consuming, but worth it.  Good luck- I am off to figure out how to summon bears!

Ok so I've updated to the latest Radeon drivers and also to 1.08b, and......still have this problem. There has been a change though, after installing 1.08 instead of being a predominantly white screen with a hint of blue on one side and yellow on the other, my screen is now probably 80% white with a green stripe on the left and a red stripe on the right, much like the italian flag.

Previously (for v1.07 and the 10.8 radeon drivers) I did a complete uninstall of all the gfx drivers, rebooted driverless, then downloaded the full catalyst pack, and that made no difference for me unfortunately COYOT6

Pretty disappointing for a preorder customer, I'd really like to be able to play the game sometime. That being said I see how much work the guys are doing on the game so don't want to complain too much. But still, sad panda.

I experienced the same shimmering polygons after updating to v1.08 patch

Prior to update (v1.07) worked fine and I am using CCC 10.8 on Win7 64bit

I also run in window mode, with anti-alising off as standard

The only way to get a new game to run was to switch over to the builtin Intel HD graphics chip

Tried your suggestions C0Y0T6 - and can happily say has corrected the issue on my machine also, no more strange polygons

Happily ran 20+ turns without an issue and noticed spell graphics also look better

10.9 available as of 9/15.  It improved several aesthetic qualities for me.  I still get a rare OOM CTD but that is larger maps and all AI's and 200+ turns in but then the game is no longer playable due to the memory leaks...

This issue has resurfaced for me with Elemental 1.1, and my old solutions (windowed mode, turn off AA and reboot) no longer work.  Any thoughts?
