Try clearing out the C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\Screens folder.

Same problem, in [1.05]!

Tried reinstalling the game, updating display driver, reinstalling directX, restarting the comp and, of course, clearing above mentioned folder, with no avail!

Otherwise, the game does not crash!

Since the interface in the game and in the option screen is garbled, it is quite a challenge to know which options are turned on.

Screenshots are on http://drop.io/nafm2iv

Here is debug.err if it is of any help!

Actually, this is for Windows7 system. I installed the game on WinXP system recently, works flawlessly!

Can you please let us know if 1.06 resolves this? Thanks.

First go to C:\ProgramData\Stardock\Elemental - War of Magic\screens and clear that out, or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Stardock if you're on XP.

Then before you start Elemental, go to My Documents\My Games\Elemental and open prefs.ini in notepad or some other text editor.  Try setting MaxTextureAtlasHeight=1024.  Save the file.

Then run Elemental.  It should take a bit longer to startup because it should be re-generating the texture atlases.

You can also try higher heights, but it works best if the texture height > texture width, so leave the texture atlas width at 1024.

I didn't see the last post, but I've resolved a problem! It works now!

Though, it's not exactly elegant solution!

First, I tried changing video card, from ATI to NVIDIA! It was the same!

Then, I tried reinstalling the windows, with an option to keep installed programs! It didn't work! But, it has told me during install that the NET framework is corrupt! It supposedly repaired it, but the game still had its issues!

Finally, I've reinstalled the windows 7 completely! New installation! Now it works! I've put only the essential drivers!

Maybe it collided with some program I had installed previously, or the directx was damaged! In my previous post I said I've reinstalled directx, but, of course, I can't reinstall directx in windows 7, my error! I'll post again if the problem reappears!

Nevertheless, it works, so I am going to "waste time" with "turning the turns"! Again, sleepless nights, as with GalCiv! I'm almost sorry I've repaired it! But, just almost!

I had this problem too. First time I've seen it happen was with 1.06. Emptying the screenshot folder seems to have fixed it (which is bizarre, but it worked).

Specs:

dual quad core 2.67ghz I7 cpu

6 GB ram

ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2

Vista 64 bit

The problem is back for me today after working fine for a while. I was trying to adjust my video settings to improve performance and when I reloaded this happened. So far deleting screens folder not helping (although I'm not sure I'm clearing out the right folder since the directory paths you gave don't match up with what I have on Vista). May be a coincidence, but I didn't have this problem before patch 1.06 and before updating to ATI catalyst driver 10.8.

Ah, the UI problem reappears, sometimes!

Game crashes a lot, with a "DX Error: Invalid Call" statement! After the crash, if I start the game again, UI is again without background, but the problem fixes after the reboot, or even after "logoff - login"!

And, also, I know I don't have state of the art video card (ATI 3870), but framerate looks rather poor, even with an 10.8 driver. Compared with an even older video card (NVIDIA 8600GT), it looks more - less the same. I just hope it will improve with some future giant patch!

It kind of, reminds me of many years ago, when I got Civilization 4. At the beginning, the game was full of bugs, glitches! After two large patches, it has become playable! I guess it is common with such large turn - based games. Pity!
