Casting spells on cities?

Hi!

I tried to play for two hours yesterday and researched two cool spells to cast

on cities. One of them should increase food output by +1 permanently (I forgot the name).

However, selecting the spell in the spell book and then the city didn't work.

I got a red square marker on the map after selecting it, but it never turned green

no matter where I pointed it and could never cast it.

Also: is there no upkeep to these spells?

Not sure about upkeep - I had a +1 food and a +1 materials spell going on my main city.

To cast them, you need to be standing next to the city with the champion/sovereign.  Then bring up the strategic casting menu.  Click on the spell you want, then click on the main part of the city.  The tile should turn either green or blue (can't remember which) indicating that you can cast the spell there.

It worked for me, I tried at first INSIDE the city, moving outside seemed to fix it- no idea what else might be the problem.

The strategic casting menu is the one you get by clicking on the spellbook, I assume?

I guess I never tried standing next to the city, I believe I tried from a bit away and

from standing inside it, but will try again tonight. Thanks :)

Also I think you have to click on the actual city center square when you cast the spell.  Other squares in the city do not seem to work.  I had quite a bit of trouble getting it to work, and ended up creating this thread on it yesterday.

Thx so much, yedjin.

I didn't find that thread initially, sorry.

I wouldn't have started a new one otherwise...

Two things to keep in mind when casting city spells.

) You cannot be stationed within the city when casting the spell.

) They have a limited range, of 3 squares if memory serves me right.

End of Novaburst's quote

I find this one particularly baffling.  Just seems like a really strange design decision.
