Confused; have a few questions

Campaign has me lost, and possibly bugged.

Small campaign spoilers in these questions.  Please, also, excuse my newbie perspective.

 

In the campaign, I've been tasked by Lady Irane to kill trolls.  Lady Irane's the 3rd mission-giving ruler, who also gifts 4 archers.  I do not have sufficient forces to kill everything I'm tasked to, yet the barrier (the one passed with the Queen Procipinee's letter) prevents me from bringing new ones from behind it.  Am I missing something here?

Previously, I was told by the second mission giver that I was to receive a pioneer to settle the fertile land near him.  I received no such pioneer, and again, can't bring a new one passed that barrier.  My line of thought is that I'm intended to build a city next to mission guy #2, and use that to build reinforcements.  However, I've been denied a pioneer to do so.  Alternatively, I'm intended to learn to kite and kill the 3 troll camps with the 4 archers; failing to do so resulting in a game over and reload.  Would either of these be correct?

 

EDIT - Nevermind.  I got around this by founding a city near the barrier, then using teleport to bring units and a new pioneer through.  Treat above as a possible bug report, though it's entirely possible that I fumbled something to create the problem.

Are you sure you didn't get a pioneer? Its not added to your stack but is wandering the coastline north of the city somewhere. I think you can found a second city there and build troops from there.

When you have found shipwreck and have reported to 2nd city's sovereign, you're awarded by Pioneer who can establish a city for you.

And no barriers in my version of campaings. Maybe its a bug of v1.01

I did not get a pioneer unit either but was able to build one instead in my starting city. The same happened on my first attempt at the campaign, but then I also had the "barrier" problem and was not able to get back across or bring units from there. Stopped playing there and restarted the campaign.

On both attempts I upgraded the pioneer unit and retired the older design, that may have something to do with not getting one later.
